Hi,

We just adopted a dog and I’m really interested in any kennel information. We’re going to have to board her while on vacation and I’m wondering if boarding her at Disney instead of back at home is best? Does anyone have any links to info or do any of the guides have info? Any personal experiences?

i could be mistaken but i don't think any of the disney specific kennels are available for overnights. i think they are really just for while you are visiting the parks, etc. plus - why put the pup through the travel hassle? with our dog, we did a kennel if necessary but usually found a loving friend or family member who was willing to either have him at their house or relocate to our house for the duration of our trip. that's always worked best for our dog because he's in familiar surroundings. luckily we haven't had a lot of trouble finding people willing to watch him. :)

The kennels are for overnight or daycare. My daughter took her dog with us this past December. We only boarded her for one night but she was very happy there. We could visit/walk her as often as we wanted. She was at the Epcot kennel where she got two walks a day from staff (there are several different locations, Fort Wilderness, TTC, etc). We even paid a little extra and got her ice cream.

It was really cute because one time we came to get her out for a walk on the second day and the girl who had taken care of her the first day was coming in for her shift. DD's dog ran right up to her and started licking her like crazy. The staff were all friendly and really seemed to like the animals.

Some people will tell you they are "just horrible" because they are run by an outside company. But our dog seemed to enjoy her time, and had no issues (ate the normal amount, not overly fearful, etc).

Our dog loves the staff at Fort Wildeness' kennels. They're really awesome & we feel very safe leaving her there.

No personal experience, but I do know that you can board overnight. Also WDW fairly recently turned over operations of their kennels to Best Friends, so you'll want recent experiences from people who've used them since the changeover.

I'd heard that the new Best Friends kennel at Disney World was supposed to be open mid-2009, but haven't heard anything else. Has anyone heard if it's open already?

I'd like to do a visit of the facility if they allow it before taking the cat there early next year. I wasn't very happy with Best Friends' service at the Epcot kennel last year, nor was I happy with the size of the crate. The cats (mine and others boarded) had litter in their water constantly and barely any room to move.
