Disney just called and said that 75 people are sick on the magic as of now.

They said the Thanksgiving cruise will be sailing but they are going to disinfect the ship top to bottom when it reaches port. They said it will not leave Canaveral until several hours late.

Disney also said they will allow any passengers to reschedule at a later date if they do not want to travel on this cruise.

Thanks for the update. It certainly sounds as if DCL is doing everything possible to eradicate the virus, and though it may be inconvenient to leave port late, it sounds like the right thing to do.

I hope you're still cruising...I know I would be. :)

Holland America tried the same thing and are now taking the ship offline
for 10 days to try and dissinfect it... Wonder if Disney will have any better
luck? Gary

DCL hasn't called us yet. I am really starting to panic. I can't believe this is happening. My bags are packed..kids are so excited...

What are you all going to do? Are you going to rebook or go?

Okay, everyone take a deep breath. :)

NO, this does not affect the Wonder.

The illness on HAL was MUCH MORE widespread and affected MORE THAN ONE cruise. Right now there are 75 ill people on the Magic, 3% of those sailing. WAY more people are healthy than NOT on that cruise.

There is absolutely no reason to panic, this is not related to FOOD or anything on the ship, it is simply an illness being spread between passengers. They are disinfecting the ship on Saturday and I'm sailing two weeks from then. I would not hesitate one second to get on the ship. Just use good common hygiene sense and lots of hand washing. :)

Oh my, let's think positive ^i^
I feel terrible for all those sick and good thoughts will
surely be with next round of cruisers. Be safe and take care. Hopefully Disney has things under control.

As Michelle says everyone relax! Disney does not want you to get sick and will do everything to avoid that! They will clean the ship top to bottom! Everyone just wash thier hands often and have a great trip!:Pinkbounc

As of 11PM Thursday, local Orlando news reporting that 100 people are ill. However, medical professionals are downplaying
this as a normal incident that happens when people congregate closely, as on a cruise ship.

As with any virus, everyone is advised to wash their hands as often as possible and try to keep your hands away from your mouth and nose.

Even on HAL, where the incidents were much worse, the vast majority of the passengers did not get sick.

Bottom line, if you are cruising soon, enjoy.

I would echo the sentiments above. It's the same at a school - one kid gets it, they all get it :) Then they bring it home to us.... ughhh.... ;)

Seriously, I think the only reason Disney has even made mention of it and publically announced that they'll be disinfecting the ship is because of everything that's going with HAL right now. If the HAL incident hadn't been such a big news story lately, I doubt the DCL illnesses would have even made the 4th page of the interest section.

I live here in Ft. Lauderdale and on the 11 o'clock news before they started doing the story abot the Holland America ship Amsterdam, they said that there are a number of people who are now sick on the Wonder which is out at sea.

I think they may of been confusing the two ships, at least I hope so.

oh my God!! To wait this long and not be able to cruise I think I would commit suicide or DH would commit murder! Good luck everyone
I did tell DH last night and he wasnt too concerned. He works in a hospital so maybe sickness scares are more common to him.
The "bathroom" meds are already packed.

Where does the Magic plan on making up the lost time next week?

If the common place is St Thomas should the Magic stop there in 2 weeks? Although we are very much looking forward to seeing the island Id rather not get sick! We are on Disney's next cruise to St Thomas.

I'm sailing as planned on the 11/23 Magic. I'm sure Disney will do everything possible to disinfect the ship. I've talked to my twin DS8 about handwashing and touching their face and have stocked up on hand sanitizer for purse, daypack, room, etc. I'm even bringing anti-bac liquid soap for our stateroom sinks and Lysol to spray everything down! I made a trip to Bath and Body Works just for the Cruise.......I think their products smell so good and they have scents just for kids!

I do think the % of illness on the 11/16 is pretty small so I'm not not panicked.

Wish us luck!

If the problem is virual, won't the use of antibacterial agents be pretty much useless? Just plain, regular soap will do the job if used properly (for both virual and bacterial stuff). I'm not trying to be a downer, but I don't want anyone getting a false sense of security because they have all of that stuff on board, or people panicking because they need to stock up on that stuff before they go. Just wanted to point that out.

Purell is a sanitizer, it is alcohol plain and simple. It kills all kinds of germies, not just bacteria. I agree that handwashing is just as good, if not better since it is less harsh, but Purell will help with viruses, too. See http://www.purell.com/classroom_outcome.htm.

I am on the cruise leaving tomorrow. I am taking a nice big chill pill, as well as my Lysol & my Purell. We will emply good sanitation habits and hope for the best. We all know that people have gotten the stomach virus on the ships before - there was a thread not too long ago about flu shots where this was made clear. I think everyone is very sensitive to it right now and of course the media is jumping all over it bc of HAL. 3% of cruisers have had terrible luck, and I feel awful for them, but as Michelle pointed out, that's less than 100 out of 2400 people. There are more people than that ill at my child's elementary school right now and guess where she is? :D

Fingers crossed that we're not one of the unlucky ones. I have my Imodium all packed just in case!!

Since they are going to clean it well on Saturday-so what if you get a late start?

We were on the Magic Nov. 2. My daughter spent Thursday in bed with a stomache bug. She threw up and she couldn't eat. My son and husband picked up a head cold. We washed our hands, rarely ate at the buffet and the kids never went into the pool other than the first afternoon right after we boarded. (The pool was almost empty). We received a letter in our cabin on Monday that there was a child in my daughters club who was quarenteened because she had chicken pox. Any time there's a large group of people there's a chance that people will share their germs and people will get sick. Especially when the ship is filled with little kids fresh out of elementary school, nursery school and day care where they freely share their germs with each other.

Noone warned us about sickness, there were no new reports and outbreaks yet we got sick. It's a chance you take when you go on a cruise or anywhere else. I wouldn't cancel my trip on such a chance unless I had someone with a weak immune system who could become seriously ill. If you cancelled everytime there was a possibility you could get sick you would never go on a cruise.
