Disney Jar

Well, it was finally time to turn in the "Disney Jar" that is in my signature. Now let me explain, 3 years ago, when my DS was born with a congenital heart defect, my DD(11 then) and I decorated a 5 gallon water jug with disney stickers and Mickey Heads and foamie letters that said "Mikey's 1st disney trip". This jug was meant to be used in a year when "mikey" turned 1, but a series of events caused us to have to postpone that trip. So here we are, 3 years later instead of one, and plus one more baby too! Disney Jar # 1 turned into 1 &2!!! as we were throwing all of our change (a nightly ritual as soon as Mikey could walk and talk was to put "circles" into the bottle) and losts of 1's 5's and 10's (dollars he called them as he crumpled them and threw them in too)

Well, we had to cut the tops off to pull the bills out before we could pour the change into the coin machine! Our total: drum roll please.....

Coins: $1066.45!!!
Bills:$1565.00!!!! since we also saved the traditional way, by putting money into a vacation club at our bank, this is truly just spending money!!! I decided though, to use a bit of it to buy a really good camera, so I just bought a Canon Rebel and am SOOOO excited that now we get to take DD14, DS3 and DD1 on our wonderful vacation. It is also sorta the first real Dsiney vacation for DH too, he's been before, but never stayed onsite, and he has never been with his own children, (DD14 is from my first marriage and DexH and I took her several times) I can't wait for him to "see" Disney through the eyes of his babies... aww, shucks , I'm choking up again!!

Get yourselves some good souveniers and have fun spending that loot! Maybe you could find a tour that all of you would enjoy or a special cruise?

That is awesome. I get excited about your trip just hearing you talk and I don't even know you! This will be so much fun for you guys and the fact that you have been able to save so much for this vacation puts you many steps ahead of many of us. I love getting to see (or take) somebody on their first trip, too. How fun for those little ones and your DH, too!

Your story warmed my heart. That is so awesome!! We too have a coin jar, but have cashed it in several times already.

I hope your DS is doing well. I too have a CHD that I have lived with for 34 yrs - all my life. I'm a mom of 2 (adopted kiddos) and have shocked every single congenital cardiologist I've seen.

How wonderful!!!!! I hope you have a wonderful and magical trip with your family!!! My DH doesn't think he will like Disney (it's his 1st time ever)...he's not into "amusement parks." I told him to just wait until he sees the kids in Disney...it will change him forever! You are so right about seeing it through a child's eyes.

Aww, thanks for being excited for us. I am excited for you and to hear all about BLT, I wanted to stay there, but opted for the cabins instead.

My DS is doing great! I am happy to hear about your wonderful progress! He was born with TGA and had the arterial switch @6 days old, other than the scars, you would never tell he isn't a "normal" toddler!!! Of course there are always future concerns, but so far, he is just like every other crazed 3 year old!

It will change him, you are right! but he still may never love it love it the way the rest of us do,. but he will think differently when he sees his children's faces light up! Have fun

Thats awesome! I can't believe that you had that much money just from "found money"!
I just cashed my change jar in and have started another for our Cruise in a year. I have never had that much though. We have a hard time staying out of it.
Maybe I should duct tape it shut so no one can raid the change jar.
