Disney Introducing RFID Refillable Mugs Starting This Month (07/13)!

Hope they go with a green option. We're Busch Gardens/Water Country season passholders, and they let us bring our drink cups back each year. We get charged slightly more than current drink cup holders, but it saves the environment all that plastic. Besides which every couple of years, we buy a new cup anyway.

gee I dont where Ive been but I totally missed this "chipped mug" issue

we are heading down is just a few days and I was wondering if these mugs are already up and going

I know the post says starting this month 7-13

but we'll be there 8-2 for 1 nite then cruise and back on 8-10 thru 8-14

so are the designs the same the pool scene

thanks all

- Can non-Walt Disney World Resort Guests purchase and use the mug?
Yes. Anyone can purchase and use the Rapid Fill mugs at any resort self-service beverage station.
So I wonder what this would mean for any resorts that don't currently have self-service beverage stations. I have always disliked the fact that Boardwalk doesn't have self-service stations. Not sure if there are other resorts without self-service stations?? If this would mean that Boardwalk would finally install them around the resort, that would be great. :thumbsup2

You can use your refillable mugs at the Boardwalk Bakery, which are self-service.

Ok, so if you buy the dining plan how many days do you get for the mug? Also, if you have a split stay on the dining plan, do you then have to get two sets of mugs?

Wow, really? Sounds great! Is that part of however they renovated the bakery? I knew a renovation was going on, but hadn't really heard any details about it.

The thing is, I think Disney is considering that the cost of the mug to Disney is probably $2.50 to $3.00, so they're also getting a profit on the mug every time if they make us buy a mug to get free refills. (Not trying to argue, but I've worked for a casino with an entertainment component and worked for a retailer, and I've watched how some of their devious little minds spin. . .)

What they may not have taken into consideration is that the mug pattern is the same old same old they've been having. I know I'm not alone in reconsidering my refillable mug purchase based on that alone - the souvenir factor is gone for me.

If DH and I decide against purchasing the darn things, they won't realize a profit on the mugs OR on our drinks. (We can get EXACTLY the soft drinks we want at SuperTarget and bring our good Louisiana coffee with us from home, thank you very much.)

I think possibly Disney merchandising doesn't care much about the frequent return customer, but at least THIS return customer wants a new mug design or the economics just aren't worth it.

I understand you not wanting to buy another mug with the same design. When we did a 2 day stay we felt that it was too expensive to buy the mugs for a short stay. We just brought 2 liters and it was much more convient to have the soda in our room than to keep walking to the food court.

Yes, it was put in when they renovated it. :)

My husband always got these mugs and uses them at home. If they can't be microwaved we will skip them from now on.

Yeah, and after that bold statement, I discussed it with DH. He WANTS the mugs; it's part of the experience to him because we have a few traditions based on "mug runs". (We get our mugs and meander through our resort, mugs in hand, taking it all in. We usually have at least one late night "mug run" so we can see our resort when it's really quiet.) So I guess we're getting more mugs.

In fact, now, for some reason, all but one of my old mugs with the pool design have disappeared. . .I still have both of my year of magic mugs, though.

Funny that.
