Disney inspiration for Lion King?

I suddenly remembered a real life Disney feature in their old weekly program (Wonderful World of Disney?). It was about this lion called perhaps Masai Simba. It traces his life from a cub to old age.

I really only remember the sad ending: he is overthrown and wanders alone in the savanah. He is bitten by a snake and lays down to "sleep". Anybody else remembers any other details?
