In the end is one going to be slightly less of a budget buster than the other? Do your children prefer one over the other?

I went to Target today and the super helpful guy said that he thought Infinity was a bit more of a budget buster because the extra figures cost a little more ($2-$4 more) but there seem to be a lot more Skylanders to buy (which I know I'm not buying ALL of them in either case).

Can anyone tell me about the actual GAMES? Like what do you do? What are the missions?

DS (5 1/2) originally asked for Skylanders, I suggested Infinity instead and he was okay with that. Being so young, I feel like I'd rather him playing a Disney game, but if he's going to get bored of it in a year, maybe Skylanders is the way to go - or will there be another Skylanders by next year (a fellow woman in the aisle with me was complaining that her son had gone through 3 versions of Skylanders now).

Also, what is the absolutely minimum you think I should have on Xmas day? (Santa is bringing the WiiU on which either will be played). Are the power pack things worth it? Are they mentioned in the game or will my son never know they existed?

I expected that some day my son would be more technology savvy than I, but I never expected it to be so soon!!

Right now it's Disney Infinity for DS(10) because it's new and he looooooves any and all things with Toy Story involved. (Shhhh! If anyone asks he's now a collector) any who he still plays the Skylanders And Skylanders Giants but is all into Infinity now and i believe it's because it is still new and he has been playing Skylanders since it came out. But as far as platform/ premise and game play I'd say they are about the same. Although Skylanders Swap Force now ranks at #2 on his Christmas list this year.

I can tell you that Skylander's has definitely been a budget buster in this house! We have the 2 previous versions and I don't know how many figures. I got my youngest ds Infinity (for Christmas) but as soon as Swapforce came out he said he wants that. I'm going to return the Infinity and get it but I am under no illusion that it will save me any money :rotfl:

I think for a 5 year old, Infinity would be better. He is probably familiar with all the characters in it.

We have both Skylanders and Disney Infinity. I haven't gotten the newest Skylanders. DS10 (and DH) likes Infinity better. THe biggest reason is that in Infinity, you aren't limited to just playing the levels in the game, but you also have the toy box where you can create things and just "play". It's all expensive! But I think Infinity is probably more expensive, as you have the characters and the little booster pack things. I don't like the little booster packs because whenever I buy them, I seem to get the same ones over and over again so it's a total waste. (they add things into the game). You don't know what you are getting until you open the package. DS tired pretty quickly of Skylanders and he's still going strong on Infinity, in large part thanks to the toy box feature.
