My family and I are going to WDW in May 2003. Was wondering how was the weather and crowds in this month? We would appreciate any information and tips. Thanks.:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

We have gone in May plenty of times, always HOT and busy but the crowds were manageable thanks to Fastpass. Hope this helps!

We always go in May. I it usually VERY hot. However, we have found the crowds to be quite low compared to other times. Ken

I almost dread asking this but here goes anyway....Just how hot is it in May? LOL If its over 90, just lie to me. I went in August last year and it was miserable hot and I was hoping to avoid that this time. See ya.

I was there 5/9-5/14 in 1999. Is was miserably hot. DD and I brought bandanas and soaked them in the fountains and slapped them on our backs. But the crowds were manageable. I'm not sure I would go in that much heat again. But consider the source! I went swimming on 12/1 at POR this year when it was 38 degrees out. I wore tank tops and shorts while others were in jeans and sweatshirts!!!! To each his own :)

We were there the first week of May this year and it was 90 to 95. I think the normal temps are around 88. It wasn't real humid though, just hot hot! We went the second week in 2000 & 2001 and it was around 90 then too. No rain any of the 3 years, but they were in a drought. We were there last week and they are definitely out of the drought! Crowds were not bad in May.

We went once in May (1994-maternity leave) and I was going to rave how nice it is! Of course, being a teacher, the only other time that I get to go is in AUGUST! lol :earseek:

We went during the first week of May a few years ago and DH said "never again"--he doesn't like the heat (he's from Michigan...though we were living in Texas at the time). It was not only hot that week, but very humid, which seems to be unusual according to the other posts. It was incredibly hot/humid (read SWELTERING) on the day we went to MGM, and we left the park after only a couple of hours because we were miserable. Prior to that visit, I had been to WDW in June, July, and September and always found the heat to be tolerable. This year we went the first week of December and we all loved it!!

My daughter and I have been going the first week in May, for the
past nine years. We have found the temperature to be in the mid
to upper 80's, and some times topping out in the lower 90's. For the most part, there is little to no rain( possible shower) in the afternoon. But not every day.
You did not say what part of May you are going. If it is late in the month then temps can be very hot. Have a great time. If you have any questions, please let me know.

My family and I are going from May 17-23. And here all this time I was wondering if I was gonna be able to go swimming or not. LOL We are gonna be staying offsite too, so anybody out there got any recommendations on that, please let me know. Look forward to hearing from you. Anybody going during that time too?

We were there in May 2002 - the 17th through the 24th to be exact. This past May, the weather was very pleasant, however, I heard the week before, it was extremely hot and humid. You will definitely be able to go swimming:) I found the crowds to be very light early in our vacation - we didn't wait more than 15 minutes for anything. Crowds did begin to increase around Thursday due to Memorial Day weekend. Enjoy :)

My daughter and I stayed off site the first year I had taken her
to WDW, when she was four. We stayed at the Holiday Inn,
Westgate. IMHO the biggest drawback is, if you want to go back to your room, your at the mercy (schedule) of the bus going to and from the parks. That is, unless your driving.
You may want to check Mousesavers at the end of Jan. or early
Feb. for discounts at the on site resorts. You might be surprise
to find the rates at the moderate resorts to be close to what
you would pay for off site.
As far as crowds go for that time of year. Depends on the
traveling public. I have yet to see any thing over the years,
that you could hang your hat on in predicting what the crowds
will be like. I have been there when the waite has been 45 - 60
min. and other times when we could just walk on. Weather wise,
I give it a 10. I from the northeast and after most winters we're
looking forward to much warmer temps.

I think May seems hotter to so many of us because we haven't gotten used to the heat yet, as we would have later in the summer.

Disney is wonderful any time of year!!

We are there May 15-23. Staying at VWL from the 18th on. We bought APs in September and want to get a couple trips out of them. And we bought into DVC, so this will be our first trip as a member.

I'm still deciding on where to stay on the 15, 16, and 17th. Definitely onsite...waiting for AP rates to come out! May is a new month for us too, but it works for our schedule.

It's never too hot to me!

We were one of the ones sweltering this May 4-12, during the "hottest May in a long time" --- we heard that WAY too many times. We've been the same time in May several other years and it was still plenty warm, but more like 85, and definitely not as humid as the 3 times we went the last week in September.

It's a bit busier than the last week in Sept, however, but still not bad. Of course, things have changed since 9/11, so it's difficult to compare with previous years.

My family and I have been to WDW in '99,'01 and '01. We skipped '00 because our daughter came into our life. It has been very very hot all 3 trips. I would say about mid to high 80's to low to mid 90's. Sure it is warm but it is very doable. This is coming from someone who lives in the very temperate San Francisco Bay Area my husband from the even cooler Monterey California area. It is not unbearable. Disney in July and August (my husband and I both concur) is way worse. Just be sensible we took one of those squeeze breezes with us everyday and we also froze water bottles which melted throughout the day. Also lines are not nearly as long as they are in the summertime.

You do not have anything to worry about. Also take time to do a day at one of the water parks or just relax at your resort pool. My daughter who has been going to disney since she was 5 months has gone in May each time and has been fine. Just use your common sense (go back and take a break in the middle of the day at your resort's pool, when it is the hottest) you will have a great time.

Preparation is the key. Be prepared for anything. It has rained when we have gone in May and it was not warm but it only lasted one day. We were not prepared but we made the best of it. The next day it was very warm. Good luck. You are in the right place these boards are a wonderful source of information and inspiration.

May 14-22 here:)
We're not going to complain if it's hot in May, as the last two of our trips during the month of Feb., the temps hovered in the 50's on both trips!

We love May. It is hot. But could be worse. We went june last year because I couldn't bring myself to take the kids out of school. And compared to may we hated it, crowds and rain.
Needless to say I'm pulling the kids out this year we will go May 12-23. driving and astaying at the Swan. You'll love it. Be sure to visit a flower power concert way to much fun. That is why our trip extends to the 20's hubby wants to see The grass roots.

Is is crowded during the 20's of May in the Disney parks? I was trying to plan my vacation around any events they might have.
