Disney reportedly in talks to buy gaming start-up Playdom
10:10 a.m. EDT, July 24, 2010

(Reuters) - Walt Disney Co. is in talks to acquire social gaming start-up Playdom, according to a pair of media reports.

Playdom builds games that run on social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace. The company claims more than 38 million monthly active users, and its games include popular titles such as "Mobsters."

The news was first reported Thursday by tech news site TechCrunch.

The Wall Street Journal said Friday that Disney is discussing a deal to buy Playdom for more than $500 million. The report cited people familiar with the matter.

I wish Disney would stop buying already created games and just stick with creating their own. Vmk, for instance.

Ah, VMK. I really miss it. Can't they bring it back as a facebook game?

Can't they just bring it back, just as we remember it? :thumbsup2

I think Disney should focus on their own games and in doing so focus on the "Disney" aspect, like VMK. But also, creating games like they used to like Mickey Speedway, Masters of Illusion: Mickey and Donald, etc. All of those games Ill still choose to play over facebook games, even most modern system games if given the chance.
