We are a family of 3. Adult, 7&10 y/o. We have been to Disney many times, but never in May. I am afraid the weather is going to be beastly hot and I can not handle the heat well. What temps can I expect. We are leaving May 23 and spending 5 nights. Are the crowds crazy? We have always used the DDP and I am thinking of not doing this for this trip. It was almost too much food. For a family of 3 what should I start saving for lunch, dinner and snacks? I am thinking of buying Disney gift cards for food and spending money. Any other advice anyone can think of. Appreciate the responses.

According to weather.com it averages 80ish in late May. Crowds will be higher than earlier in May due to Star Wars weekends and the fact that you're going over Memorial Day when a lot of people go. A crowd tracking website guessed the crowds as 9, 9, 8, 8, 7, 7 on those days this year. How much money you save depends entirely on which restaurants you will eat at. A good start would be to go over the menus at the locations you would likely eat at and add it up. Everyone eats differently I'm afraid - there is no one size fits all.

I like to go to Florida in May. We have experienced temps in the 90's in early May with minimal crowds (around Mother's Day). As far as food - we are a family of 5 so no comparision for me to share.

Have a great trip!

We just went in May of this year. It did reach the mid 90s a few days while we were there and the afternoons 1-4ish were pretty warm. We faired well with it though (better than I figured we would).
We always do DDP and love the concept of having it all pre-paid. That being said we did find it was a lot of food for us with the heat. Although the kids did have more ice cream type snacks then when we go in the cooler months. Crowds weren't horrible (week before Memorial day) but as we led up to Memorial day did see an influx of people. It was doable though. All in all we would probably do that time period again since it was easily worked out with school/sport schedules for us.

We've done the Disney gift cards a few times in the past to get that pre-paid convenience for meals and purchases. No DDP for us now that DD12 is over 9 but still ordering kids meals. This last time, instead of guessing at how much we might need on gift cards, we just used our magic bands and charged everything to our credit card. Super easy...and works great if you can keep yourself from going overboard.
