We are planning a trip to Disney World (probably around the 20th-26th or so). It looks to be pretty hot and humid based on the averages. I am worried about the rain.

Has anyone been in June? What were your experiences?

Hi and welcome to the DIS!:welcome:

June gets busier with each day that goes by as more and more schools get out for the summer.

The weeks surrounding July 4 (this year it will be June 26-July 12) are the busiest weeks of the busy summer season.

Yes, you can expect it to be quite hot and humid with a thunderstorm almost every afternoon which will last anywhere between 15 minutes and a couple of hours. Bring ponchos!

Really? A thunderstorm every afternoon....I have been there before and had thunderstrom that you basically wouldn't know happened 15 minutes after, is this the case in June too. I will be there June 19-27

we will be their 21-27th What do you do if your at the water parks do they clear eveyone out?

We go to our local Dollar Store and purchase our ponchos there. They sell them in a pack of two. When going in June, we purchase one for each of us for every day. I know it sounds like alot but it does rain pretty much everyday. If we use them, they go into the garbage, if not we have them for the next day or even the next time. There packaging is flat and stores really easy in a fanny pack or backpack. Hope this helps a bit.....have a great trip. We'll be there June 7-14 at AKV.

Thanks for the warning. We will be there June 21 to June 28. I will have a toddler. Do they sell ponchos that small anywhere?

Hi- Last year we were there from May 29 - June 10th and it rained only one day, but boy did it rain. The ponchos didn't even help. This year we will be there from June 7th- 12th. We are preparing even more for this trip. I have been there different times in June and August and I think it rains more then.

As far as small rain poncho's - the only kind that I have seen are the non disposable ones that you don't want to carry after anyways.

Have something (garbage bag or extra poncho) for the stroller and when we went to Calif., and yes it rained, we used an adult one on our 7 yr old & cut the bottom off & used it as a belt to tie around her waist. Worked well, but that was on a 7yr old, not an 18mo old.......

We were there last June, and it was hot. I am a big proponent of getting to the parks early, so that helped. We also planned afternoon activities that were in air conditioning, such as shows, Ellen's Energy Ride, etc.

Use the ponchos but realize everyone will look the same if you purchase the Disney ones. One day there was a complete downpour for 40 minutes and no one was walking around outside. We spent 40 minutes in the Norway Pavilion with a bunch of other folks waiting out the rain.

I just wanted to say have a great time, have fun and enjoy in your upcoming trip. Looking forward in hearing more from you after you came back.

Have a nice day everyone. :)

We--why do I say we since as the Mom I do all the pre-trip planning and shopping--LOL--bought ponchos at Target last year for 99 cents each. I bought about a dozen so we could throw them away as we went. They are one size fits all but I cut them with scissors to fit. I needed a short one to fit over the steering colum on my ECV. Cuttting with scissors worked great! If they don't tear you could save them and use them again but they don't ever fold up as small as they started! We ended up only using them once last year so I have plenty for this year. After reading these posts I think we'll need them. I dread going in late June but with DS 16 away that week doing charitable work, we needed less child care making it possible for us to sneak away alone!

Hot with chance of thunderstorms. Walmart has kid sized ponchos. Bring a rain cover for stroller. We put a damp stroller in the trunk on a hot humid day and by the time we took it out a few hours later, it had already begun to get musty and moldy.

I strongly agree with msp2mco. Do yourself a huge favor and get to the parks before they open. Hit all your favorite things first. It will be blazin hot in June! We make an ADR for lunch. Then head back to our room to swim and relax.

We are not crazy about ponchos. We do take them with us. Sometimes we just walk in the rain or hit the indoor stuff. Dont forget to take the extra shoes!

At times it was so hot the rain was a blessing! lol

I like going in June. One time we went the week of Christmas and it was cold but still crowded! When I go to Fl I want it to be hot! I like it!

We were there the end of June, beginning of July last year and while at the water park one day, it poured rain. Everyone is required to leave the water but you do not have to leave the park. We waited it out for about an hour before they allowed anyone to go back into the water. We just sat and relaxed under an awning and chatted with the other families around.

The best part was, when they reopened everything, the park was empty. We did not have to wait for anything as most everyone had gone back to the hotels.

I lived in Tampa for two years and while the weather isn't the exact same (until you live in Florida you don't appreciate what a localized shower really is) it is pretty close.

June is hot and humid and the beginning of the rainy season. My experience down there was that about the middle of June to the middle of August is the rain every-day season. The showers are mostly short and not violent but are pretty regular.

In the Tampa area the showers at the beginning of the season were generally in the late after noon or evening and as the season went on the showers started earlier. If memory serves the late June showers usually were around the afternoon commute home.

June is definitely better than August or September from the standpoint that the nights are a bit more mild and hurricanes are less likely.

gone in June the couple of trips and have one planned for about the same time as you for this June. The parks in general are open for longer hours. We would hit parks in the morning and take a break in the afternoon. The kikds would swim and usually we all took a short nap. We were then refreshed for the late afternoon/early evening touring. The MK was open then until 11:00 every night. We usually watched Wishes if we were there and shopped a little prior to catching the bus to our resort. It was much more relaxing then spending ten hours staraght in the parks.

The MK and water parks hours aren't out yet, but Epcot, DHS and DAK are out for June and they look similar to our last trip. Thee should be time for an afternoon break and plenty of time in the parks.

We've gone in June several times, and everyone is pretty spot on about the rain: it normally happens every day if not every other day, but literally only for about 20 minutes or so. Florida rain is great that way. Besides, it feels great after being so hot all day long :) . Rain ponchos are our favorite. Someone said earlier to go buy them at the dollar store; that's what we do every year. And I would recommend not even trying to save any -- they NEVER fold up nicely and then they just get everything wet and they take up space. Overall, going in June is fun, even if its the month that most schools get out and everyone's flocking to the parks...but still, it's Disney, it's ok. ;) You'll have a great time.

I agree with Hootch above. We were at the parks early each morning and every day except one, the rain showers were when we were in the room for the afternoon nap!:yay: We only used our ponchos 1 time--and only because we didn't get back to the resort as early as usual for the afternoon break. We were refreshed andheaded back to the parks for the evening when all the "all dayers" were trudging out, tired, hot and cranky.:thumbsup2

We were there last year june 19th-23rd..It did rain just about everyday around 2 to 3 for an hour or so..While I thought it looked fun in the photos to do the parks in the rain, AK was not much fun in the rain (even with ponchos..) I just wanted out of the park..The showers cooled it off though, as right around that time, its reaching unbearable as far the heat. Cleaned things off for the night. If youre going to Florida, you may as well be hot, I say..
As for being crowded, we really didnt have much issue with that. Get your fastpasses early..Definitely get to the parks early. I dont know if we'll get the kids up and out to be able to make any ropedrops this year, but believe you me, IF I can, I will!
Good Luck!

Just a word about ponchos...my husband is fairly tall...about 6" 2'. When he wears an adult poncho from Disney, the bottom of his shorts are exposed and they get soaked. Last year we found zip up rain coats...very thin though, not the thick plastic ones...but they were long (down to my hubby's knees!), had real hoods w/ drawstrings and real sleeves. I can't begin to tell you how much better it felt to have a real coat on when it was down pouring. (During hurricane fay!).

Also, we bring a small towel with us into the parks. Usually a swimmers towel. It's nice to be able to dry off your hands when you go from rain outside to an indoor area.

We're going in June too for the first time. I'm very glad to hear that the evenings are more mild than in August!

:goodvibes
