we are thinking of visiting Disney this year from 29th May - 14th June. Since our family are "Disney Virgins", any advice regarding whether this is a good or bad time to go re temp and crowds in the parks would be much appreciated. we will be taking our 4 and 8 year old.
Many Thanks

Hi there,

I have been going to WDW for over 10 years now and love the place as it is the happiest place in the world, but I have been guilty of big mistakes mostly not taking time off to enjoy the great Disney hotels we have stayed at. You can see everything in one 2 week trip but don't, leave something for the next time. We, my wife and I generally used too have a big row a day 5 or 6 simply because of triedness because I used to be at every park opening till the end, simply crazy. Take time off and take a stroller for the kids even if they don't want it, they will by the end of the day. If you hire strollers from Disney it can work out expensive at the end of the trip and buy juice to take into the parks as this can also start to work out quite costly at the end of the trip.

Have a lovely holiday

Hi and welcome to the boards! :welcome:

We visited last year the same time (May 30th - June 15th) and had a great time.

Weather was very hot at times and only had one bad day when a hurrucaine past by the south of Orlando one afternoon but it didn't cause us any trouble (just lots and lots of rain and very windy!).

Crowd wise, I would advice getting to the parks early! We were at the disney parks about 45 mins before they opened as they did get quite busy. But as long as you manage your fast passes you shold be fine!

If its your first time to disney it may be wise to purchace an itinerary planner such as Tour Guide Mike's so you know which parks to go to on what days and how to best manage your time in the park, we found it a big help. Also think about getting a good guide book, Brit's Guide to Orlando 2009 and The Unofficial Guide Walt Disney World 2009 are both excellent buys! :thumbsup2

Happy planning! :goodvibes

If it was my 1st ever visit I think I would now opt to stay in a Disney Hotel, I would try not to cram in too many parks Ie leave out Universal , sea world ( good excuse to go back)
We met a British family last year who opted to stay on International without a car, they said it was there 1st trip and thought that The International Drive area was the place to be but it was taking them over 2 hours to travel into Disney on the local buses and it was too expensive to get a taxi, I met them in Typhoon Lagoon and beacause of a thunderstorm
they only got 2 hours in the park!

Location, Location, Location,

Plan in rest days, ie pool days water park days.

Take your time, relax, wear comfortable clothes and shoes, get a misting fan it WILL be humid and drink plenty of isotonic drinks and water to stay hydrated and avoid heat stroke. Crowds will soon build once the local schools break up for the holidays. Make sure you have the right SPF and get some swimming done at the pool and the water parks it's a great way to unwind.
Get the kids involved with planning your days before you go too there may be stuff they really want to try or not as the case may be. Have fun.

We've been around this time on 3 occasions due to our DD's school hoildays :thumbsup2 The weather is very hot and very humid, and normally when we go there's plenty of rain, but hey who cares it's WDW and not home ;) Park's are usually quite busy, but we've always found them managable :goodvibes

Hi, we went early June last year, we had a fab time, but yes it did rain at some point every day we were there. The mornings tended to be fine, but it would cloud up in the afternoon, although this helped to cap the temperature as I think it would have been too hot otherwise!

Crowd wise, the parks were busy but not stupidly crazy. We used fast passes and didn't have to queue for too much at all. Found the water parks busy though so it may be good to go there early in the day.

I would also agree with some of the others - try to spend some time in the disney resorts - we loved the Boardwalk area as they are a nice break from the parks.

Enjoy :thumbsup2

We have been in June three times. It is lovely and hot, but you do tend to get rain (and so bad humidity) most afternoons. I personally wouldn't go again in June now I have discovered May (just as hot but barely any rain, and lower crowds), but its Disney so you will have a great time whatever!!

If you are planning on spending most of your time in Disney parks I second what most others have said - a Disney hotel will save you loads of time travelling and is worth a few extra pennies.

Hi there wow you must be so excited, your first Disney Trip!

With your kids being school age, I would say that when you are going is as good a time as any. We have been in almost every month of the year bar December and January and I have never found in unbearably busy.

Check out www.mousesavers.com and www.allears.com as well as the Orlando Forum on Trip Advisor for more info on your trip to Florida.

The kids WILL get tired. I have seen kids aged 10 or older in a stroller! See how you get on but you can pick up a stroller really cheaply at WalMart (there are loads in Florida) and then give it to a family you see just arriving on your departure day at the airport or alternatively at your hotel/villa they will thank you and it works out cheaper than renting one at WDW. Souvenirs are also cheaper outside the parks so it might be a good idea to make WalMart or the outlet malls a first port of call before you get to the parks for T-Shirts, autograph books etc and maybe set your kids a budget of just one thing in the park at the end of the trip. Bottled water is a must!!!!!! It is so easy to get dehydrated and mini fans and baby wipes will come in really handy too. Could you give us more details - like are you staying on disney property, in a hotel or condo/villa, are you renting a car, will you be visiting SeaWorld, Universal, Busch Gardens as well etc? We might be able to help you more :flower3: .

One thing is for sure - you are in for a fantastic time :cheer2: !

I agree.
The humidity can be quite tiring too so be prepared and make sure you rest,Stay hydrated..We always popped back to the hotel to cool off mid afternoon the girls loved being in the pool.
Be aware that even somedays its HOT and the sun isn't out you still catch the sun.:beach: So lotion up!

The crowds was busy for us but more the end of our hols as we usually stop Mid June and begining of July.

It's a matter of preparation, rest, stay cool, and keep hydrated and not to rush.

Enjoy:cheer2:

I have been in May before but not June. But I'm also planning last week May first week June this year (I would never do late July early August again).

My biggest advice would be to take a break from the parks in the afternoon, to rest and swim. I have been a lot in January and February and while the parks are less crowded then, they aren't open as late as they will be in June, so it gives you more time to do the afternoon rest thing.

Staying onsite is nice but if you want extra space, it's also worth looking at nearby condos and villas.
