Disney in January??

I've been to Disney twice. The end of August and the middle of November. August was hot and November was cool. What is the average temp in January? My daughter will have most of January off in 2010 so was thinking of going then.

Hi,

Winter weather in Orlando is completely unpredictable. You could have warm days (80s) with cool mornings, or you coul have mornings near freezing with afternoons in the 40s and 50s. Or you could have a little of both, or something in between.

So to give you the "average" temperature in January would be like saying that if you had one foot in the freezer and the other in the oven you would, on average, be comfortable!

We were there over the Martin Luther King Weekend and it was very cold. Especially at night. We had one nice day but it did get chilly at night again.

If you go in January, I just recommend you bring a jacket, gloves and hat for those chilly nights for sure. We saw several people in shorts, but we wore pants everyday.

I totally agree with Bob P (and LOVE the analogy!!!).... I've been twice the first week of Feb and vow never to do it again.

Coming from the northern part o' the states, going to FL in winter creates visions of capris and sandals and warm pools.... instead both trips were filled with hoodies, sweatshirts and jogging in place for warmth.

Not to say that it was anywhere near as cold as home those weeks, it's just not what I wanted. AND, like Bob said - both trips, the week prior and week post trip had days that were in the 80's.

Not that I'm bitter.

We were just there last month. The 1st day we arrived the high was 38. The next day it was low 50's. It then went up to 70's. Our last day there it was back down to the 60's. It was definately cool enough at night to wear a jacket. We did have a couple of days that it was warm enough to swim at the resort. Luckily, we were well prepared and packed for the unexpected.

We have gone 5 times in January and love it!!! Although this year was very cool!!! But before it has always been warm around 70-but up to 87 one time and down to 50 another.
We have been at BB because it was so warm and we have also worn gloves and jackets another.
We come from New England and our attitude is...Well at least it warmer than home!!!
While we were there this year, my Dad called while we were waiting for the bus at our hotel and it was minus 21 degrees and they had frozen pipes. So that day we were very glad it was 60 out!!!
Try it you'll like it!!!

we went last year for our first january trip and were very surprised by how cold it was down there. we all ended up buying stuff to keep warm - and saw some people walking around with hats, scarves and mittens/gloves. we're from new england so we thought that maybe was a bit extreme (for us anway) but we were defintely cold and worried most about our 6 mo old baby.

that being said - we survived and i definitely prefer it to excessive heat! we're booking our next trip for january 2010 and will once again be bringing a 6 mo old along for the ride. we're just going to pack a bit better.

We just went Jan 30-Feb3. It was chilly, no swimming and needed long pants, and hoodies every day. Of course not long after we left it shot back up to 80 and I tortured myself watching the weather channel everyday for another week.
This is the 2nd time out of 3 Jan trips that were really cold. (First time it was in the 30's and we had full winter coats with hoods up and wind blowing cold!)
I just wanted a warm getaway but it didn't happen. Not a bad time really.
I like to be able to swim or a least let the kids swim. They're more tolerant of swimming in cold weather.
If we ever try to escape winter again for a long weekend, it will be late March or April. or we'll go much further south.

It's the hardest time of year to pack for, but if you can think in layers you will do fine. Crowds are usually low, but prepare to park hop so you can avoid the giant Brazilian tour groups. Be flexible, brings different styles of clothes and you will enjoy January.

I was there the same time - Jan. 20-27 - my first night I watched Wishes with my pj bottoms under my jeans, two pairs of socks, a t-shirt, long sleeve shirt, sweatshirt & hoodie, scarf and gloves. It was 32 degrees at 8pm. But it was -22 at home, so I felt downright balmy!
By the end of the week, it was high seventies and I was in capris and sandals.
Moral of this story- pack for all seasons if you go in January!!!!

We were there 1/26-2/1. The beginning of the week it was mid 70's, then mid 80's one day (which I took total advantage of and sat by the pool most of that day since I knew it was probably my last chance), the rest of the week it cooled down to mid 50's during the days. One of the nights there was a "wind chill" of 28 and a real temp of mid-30's. We wore coats, scarfs, gloves to go out those nights, but I have to say, it was sort of nice not to be so hot standing in the lines.

We really enjoyed the January crowds which more then compensated for the weather. If it was going to be my only trip of the year, I might have been disapointed.

We were there Jan. 2 - 6 and it was perfect. Upper 70s, low 80s as highs. We spent a ton of time laying by the pool and I think I might have put my jacket on once. That being said, I know darn well that we just got really lucky!

We were there the last week of January this year. The weather was in the 40s our first few days (think coats, hats, scarves...) then it got warmer the last few days.

We've been there in January twice, and the weather is totally unpredictable. Don't expect it to be hot. The best you will get is probably the upper 70s.

Also, watch out for the Brazilian tour groups...they are EVERYWHERE in January. You wouldn't think this is a problem, however they travel in large packs, which significantly impacts the fast pass lines, and also the regular lines too.

I don't think we'll go in January again. Maybe March or April.

That's when we were there. We arrived on the 21st. It was cool, but better than the -40's we came from.
OT, but one other thing that was great we didn't have a lot of wait time in lines. There were a few popular rides that had some wait times, but not very many.

I was there too! It was freakishly cold. My daughter was bundled up, but I put a small investment into Disney sweatshirts. Which I think alot of people did. Best advice, bring a little bit of all and things that can be layered and then tied around your waist or carried easily. Don't forget gloves and a scarf. Best advice, stay off Splash Mountain on cold (er) days! We had to walk off ThunderMountain and got park fast passes and headed to Splash Mountain right before sundown. What was I thinking! I forgot what it was like, my daughter is just now tall enough, so it has been many years since I was on it. DD stayed dry because I lounged over her, but I was soaked from head to toe. Brrrr...

You never know with Orlando; could be 30, could be 80.

We went Jan 16-24. We had three nights below freezing and averaged day time temps were in the high 40's. Two days of our nine day trip had temps in the high 50's-low 60's - never wore shorts, never swam.

Plus is was VERY crowded; lots of tour groups from South America and I assume families taking advantage of the Disney Deals...
