Disney in January Do or Don't

I have a six year old little girl who loves the pool so is it a good ideal to go to Disney in January even though we are staying at a Deluxe resort. They say that the pools are heated but will she still be able to swim alot at that time of the year? Love to hear from someone who may have been there in January.

Yes, the pools are heated. And kids are known to be brave enough to swim while their parents are sitting in sweat pants and hoodies!

Anything can happen weather-wise in January. You could have mild to warm days with cool mornings, or you could have mornings near freezing with afternoons in the 40s. And both of those scenarios could happen within a day or two of each other!

We were at WDW for 9 nights this January. The temperature really varied throughout our trip. The first couple of days were quite warm....in the 80s...and my DD happily spent time in the pool in the evenings. Then it dropped down to the 60's for a couple of days and then the last couple of days were in the 70's. Even on the colder days, there were kids in the pool.

It also depends on where you're from if the weather will be cold. I'm from NH, and January in Florida is almost always swimming weather. It would have to snow to keep us out of the pool.

We spent 8 nights at Disney this past January.

POP's pool was colder than it has been. There recently was a long thread about how many guests (from the Values to the Deluxes) feel that the Disney hotels pools' temps. are not being heated as much as in the past. Several people also stated that they had asked the managers & the managers even admitted that the thermostats have been turned down.

During our 9 day stay...we had 2 days in the low 80s, the rest in the 70s.

The pool temp. did not seem to bother the kids.

We always go in July. We went this January for DH to run in the marathon. What a difference. We were there six days and it was only warm enough for the kids to swim once. Not warm enough for DH or I. Even the kids were cold when they would get out to go down the slide. If swimming is important to you (as it is to us) I would pick a warmer month.

We LOVE JAnuary but swimming is not a big deal to us there. We are in the pool all summer so it really is not something we spend time on at WDW anyway. DS always gets one or two short swims in but it is like run for the towel and hot shower as soon as you get out. I swam last year once and it was warm in the pool but getting out was murder. HOWEVER January means no crowds in the parks and lower rates so it is so worth it to us.

I'm curious...Do people still go on Kali River Rapids when it's cooler weather. It's my DS's favourite and I can't imagine going to DW in January if he can't go on it. We got pretty soaked on it when we went in Sept. which was a nice break from the heat/humidity, but I've always wondered about those rides in cooler weather. Anyone with experience?

Jan in Fla is hit or miss. We have been there and it was 80 degrees, and been there when it was 50 (and I am talking about the same week.) Also every time we have been there in Jan or (Dec for that mater.) we have swam and been rather comfortable (at least for a few days.)

The truth is pack for everthing and do layers. I had my DD wear pants under her summer skirts she was dying to wear. (with a sweat shirt over her T shirt.)

I heard a rumor that the pools are colder latley as a new polciy. This was after we left, so I don't myself. If it is indeed true I hope they get it worked out before next winter because the pools do need heating to make swimming in Jan comfortable.
