Looking for some ideas of what to see/do around Disney in December as I've never been. Also any ideas of saving $ on hotels, etc. I want to be able to use my $ on more important things (souveneirs). THANKS!

We are going the second wk of Dec. We plan to resort hop this time around to take in all the wonderful Christmas decorations. We are staying at Pop Century for $49+ tax a nite. We were lucky enough to receive a post card with this rate. Keep checking the Mousesavers board or try for a AAA rate. We do not plan on leaving Disney prop. but I am sure we will find plenty of new things to see and explore.

Definately resort hop to see the x-mas decorations. Also take a bus ride or hayride through Fort Wilderness. All of the Northern birds flock down in their RV's to enjoy the warmer weather and they bring there own x-mas decorations from home. It's cute to be on a bus and drive through the Fort Wilderness area and see all the lights that were brought down. Spend some time at DTD and the Boardwalk (Jellyrolls). You may want to buy a ticket for MVMCP as they have different shows/parades for same. Go and have a drink one night (Thurs, Fri. or Sat.) at PORS to watch Bob's show in the lounge.

For cheaper rooms, you may want to try bidding on priceline or hotwire (check out site called biddingfortravel.com or betterbidding.com) for good room price right off of Disney property.

CRAVENDISNEY: When did you get a postcard?? We are going the same time and nothing here! We already have our rooom only resies I wonder if that's why we won't get one!:(

MyDH and I are going Dec 4 - 11 (with DMIL and her SIL). We've been before in Dec, and just love MVMCP and the Osbourne Family's Spectacle of Lights (in MGM). The best is during MVMCP when they start blowing "snow" from over the rooftops on Main Street. The docration everywhere are spectacular, and are geared toward the theme of the park or hotel. It's not too crowded during early Dec, so you (and we) should have a terrific time.

How much are the horse drawn carriage rides?
Where do you siogn up for them?

We have 5 rooms booked at Pop Century for the week before Christmas and got 20% off with a AAA discount. We booked directly through Disney and are paying about $480 for the week including tax (I think that works out to just over $60/night for the room rate). If you are going before Christmas, the AAA discount is available on most resorts for most dates. As long as you check in on one of the available dates, the rate is good for your whole stay.

They have hayrides at Fort Wilderness. I think you sign up at the ticket booth just beside the Hoop-de-do building.

At that time of the year they also have horse drawn carriage rides downtown at Disney's town of Celebration....also snows every hour...Santa is there too...lol...last year we watched as one fella had his and his dog's pic taken with Santa. It was a golden retriever and he had a stylish bandana around his neck as did his owner!

Also, come to think of it, I think I remember hearing there might be horse drawn carriage rides offered at some of the other Disney resorts then besides just Fort Wilderness. Anyone?

I'm not sure what those hayrides go for now...I think somewhere around $8 a person...

The carriage rides in Celebration are per carriage...seems it was about $40 for the 4 of us last Christmas.

actually it was the sat after thanksgiving (crowded) until dec 6th....we stayed at AKL bc we got a really great rate of $124 (via SOG...but the annual pass rate was about the same). We ate breakfast in the room (breakfast bars, fruit) so lunch was at the park & dinner at a hotel restaurant. as long as we didn't snack all day, we didn't go over on the food budget....it's just hard to stick to your spending budget with kids!!!
