My boyfriend and I will be going to Disney World in August, not my first choice in times to visit WDW, but I started teaching and it worked with my schedule, what are some tips, advice, or experiences that you had while visiting the world in August. I know anytime to visit WDW is a great experience, but is visiting in August really as bad as I'm hearing?

We've gone in August a few times. It's one of the best times to go in terms of crowds and good deals. The last 2 years we got a 40% off pin and were able to stay club level at the Beach Club and Poly. The lines were great!! We never waited. It is hot don't get me wrong but if you get to the parks early and leave by 1:00 go back to resort for swim and relax you'll be all set. We usually shower and go back for dinner and fireworks.
I think August is a gret time to go.

Couldn't agree more! The last two weeks in August see a significant drop in attendance as many school in the South begin their classes. It can be insanely hot, but it's nothing that a good soaking on Splash Mountain can't fix!

In all seriousness, just follow the plan of getting to the parks early, taking a break in the afternoon, and head back to the parks in the evening. As a fellow New Jerseyan, I think you'll find the heat nothing you haven't experienced up here, just don't expect any relief like we usually get. Have a great time!

I agree with the other two posts.....one of the best trips we had was the last week of August! Take a mid-afternoon break at the hotel and you'll be fine!:thumbsup2

Thank you for the tip, a mid-afternoon break will definitely be on the agenda! We are going late August so hopefully, we won't experience those long line either! Thanks for your help! :thumbsup2

4 of our last 6 trips (and our upcoming 7th!) have been in August, and we love it. The second half of the month is less crowded than the first, but the weather is manageable.

Stay hydrated, and use crowd management skills to see the really popular stuff early. Then, go back to the resort and swim and nap. when you return in the late afternoon, the all-day commandos will be worn out and you will be as fresh as a daisy. The recipe for a great (and usually, leisurely) second half of a day!

For us, this blend of morning commando, lunch & rest, and late afternoon lollygagging is always the perfect day in August. Just remember the important rule -- never get on a fastpass line (or even an apparently short standby line) behind a yellow-shirted tour leader. I made that mistake once... Once.

Above all: Enjoy! I mean, you're in DisneyWorld! How great to be you! :thumbsup2

The August Free Dining dates should be coming out in the next month or so. The rumored fall free dining dates are August 17 - September 27.

Congratulations on your upcoming trip. We have always gone in late August and love it. The lines are fantastic until about the Thursday before the Labour Day weekend and then it starts to get busier. The other great things about August are that it doesn't get dark until about 8:00, the parks are open pretty late and you can always take a swim (even at night).

We've gone in August several times as I am a teacher as well. It is really hot and crowded, but with planning you can move through these obstacles. We always took advantage of the the late hours and usually stayed on site so we could also take advantage of EMH.

75th post! I'm a Mousketeer now!
