I am thinking of booking a Disney trip for me and my 7 year old sister in August, and i am wondering about the heat, and the crowds???:confused3 Anyone been in August? If so how was it. I am trying to go when it is not to incrediably busy!! Thanks so much for your help... :cool1:

its a bit crowdy, heat is bearable for adults but children may find it hard to bear it.

We have been the last 2 August's and crowds have been bearable. Just make sure you get there early and take lots of water with you. It does get hot and sudden rain showers do happen so bring ponchos.

One year we went in August and it was so hot I couldn't do the parks every day. That being said it was the best trip ever. I usually never enjoy the pools, rent a boat at POR, etc. It was such a relaxing trip because the heat slowed me down. Now I make sure every trip is a relaxing trip because this one was so much fun.

Thanks so much, I think I am going to call Disney and go ahead and try and book it for the beginning of August.. Once again thanks for all your help!!!! :yay:

August is just too plain hot and crowded. So unless you drink lots of water and are in good shape, for the amount of walking and sweating, plan to hold back on the urge to go asap! We are planning to go Sept 9-15 this year. We are hoping for a few degrees cooler and a lot less crowded. Of course the free dining package sold the deal too.
I've gone in December and have had to wear a winter coat.Nothing like visiting the Gulf all bundled up! I'm from Erie, Pennsylvania too. I'm use to the cold! Lines were awesome though. Walked right up to Tower of Terror and didn't have to wait a single second (before the days of Fast Passes).

We were there last week of August last year and while it is hot, the crowds were great.

Florida schools go back 2 weeks before Labour Day! Worked great for us last year and we're trying it again this year!:wizard:

The crowds are definitely more bearable towards the latter half of August.

As far as the heat goes....it is oppressive. Take every opportunity to go inside. We always try to plan on seeing indoor, air conditioned, shows during the hottest part of the day.

Going back to your resort to swim in the afternoon also helps with the heat!

We will be there this August:thumbsup2 We will be planning on taking it slow, leaving the parks in the afternoon for rest & a swim. Also we will be drinking LOTS of water. I am bringing a double stroller for my girls even though one will be 7 yrs old, instant seating & shade! Also bringing wet washcloths to keep in our food cooler to put on face & neck to help cool us down as well as small fans to clip onto the stroller (and rechargeable batteries!!!).

We went last August and are going again this August. :)

It is very hot but, we have gone many times in September so we are used to it. We just take it slower and drink tons of water.

The crowds aren't bad at all. We went in the middle of the month last year. Thinking the same week or the last week this trip. We are actually booking the trip tomorrow!:goodvibes

We are going this August from the 21st to the 28th! Great to hear about everyones August experiences!

:cool1:We have been to WDW the last 2 years in the end of Aug. The week right before labor day is not bad at all when it comes to crowds. Some of the attractions are almost a walk on! Even the 2nd to the last week isn't to bad if you plan it out right. As for the heat... drink planty of water and cool off by doing inside things mid afternoon like at MK the Hall of Presidents,Mickey's PhilharMagic, Country Bear Jamboree etc. Every park has a few inside attractions. Also you could go right a rope drop and stay for the midmorning, go back to the hotel for an afternoon swim and then back to the parks around dinner time. Honestly, I have been to WDW almost every month but Jan. & Feb. and I have been in heat waves just as bad as Aug. in the end of april. If you take you time and plan it isn't to bad. :-)

We have always gone the last week of August--LOVE it! The heat doesn't bother us & the best part was the crowds--none :)

This year we are going at the beginning of August due to HS football. I'm worried about the crowds, but its the only time we can go ....

We are going 1st week of August. How are the crowds? It's my first time with a toddler and I'm super nervous due to the heat (only time we could go). I've been in July (twice) and October. I'm definitely going to try to do rope drop every morning, mid day break and then return in the evening. I'm definitely having DS drink lots of water. Anyone have any other tips with a toddler? Greatly appreciated. TIA!!!

We are trying to plan a trip starting August 15. From reading the posts it sounds like the crowds won't be an issue, just some heat managment that we can work with. Has anyone heard of any speacials like free dinning starting on 8/15? All the current offers end 8/14... Any news would be great!:yay:

We always go in late August and have found the heat totally manageable and crowds LOW! We think it's the best time of the year to go because the crowds are pretty low, but the parks are still open early/close late. Most of the parades/fireworks are shown nightly. The last or second to last week is ideal-- plus there's usually free dining or some other great discount to make it totally worthwhile!
