HI, FDH and I are also having a Disney Wedding!
Having a Disney wedding wasn't something that I've always wanted, but something that I came upon purely by accident.
We were engaged in October 2003, and not wanting to be an over anxious bride, I was low key about all the wedding planning until December when my sister and I were at a
travel agent to plan our upcoming trip to Italy! (In actuality, the plans to go to Italy were already in the works before the proposal). Anyway, While at the travel agent I picked up a few brochure's of some places that I would want to honeymoon. DF and I decided that it would be someplace that neither one of us had visited before, so I knew that both Disney World and Land were out of the question, as would be Disney land Paris, (my sister and I are going there after her graduation) I thought about the Sandals resorts. As I was reading about the resort, I saw that they offer free weddings. I thought..WOW! So we thought about having a wedding there. But then came the factor of who we wanted to be there and how much it would cost for our guest. (most packages are all inclusive) We knew this would be out of the question because of the cost! SOOOOO, Thats when I suggested a Fairytale Wedding!!! I had saw this ad in on of those honeymoon brochures that I got at the travel agencey. We thought this option would be more economical for our guests because they can customize their own vacation, stay where they want, how long they want....you get the idea! So anyway, We talked to our closest friends and family to see what they thought. They were all wonderfully supportive. The hardest part was just getting all the information.... I must say...Travel Agents know very little about Disney Weddings, (despite what the bottoms of the ads may say "see your travel agent about booking a fairytale wedding). 99.9% of the info I found came from all you on the net, and a huge thank you to Andrea!!! You are the best !!
So anyway......We are on our way to Disney with 18 of our closest friends and family.
We are staying at POR...... The reason....... Well, The last time I was at WDW, I was with my parents and the resort was called "Dixie Landings" I remember seeing the Beautiful Mansions as we took the ferry to DTD. I thought they were some Historical Mansion...(silly me, I didn't realize that it was a resort).
Where we were going to stay was a big issue in our Honeymoon/Wedding planning. Since we were already going to WDW and I HAVE been there before and DH HASN'T, I at least wanted to stay at a resort that I have never stayed in before. I did not want to stay at any of the Value resorts (no offense to anyone who is, but I wanted more of a romantic feel to the room since it is our honeymoon), This is not only DH and I's honeymoon, it will also be the first vacation that we ever went on together! Okay, back to the resorts.... I have stayed at the Contemorary, and many of the moderate resorts. When I was doing research on the resorts, I realized that POR was the old Dixie Landings, I immediatley knew that we had to stay there. I was even more amazed when I found out that it was a moderate resort.....Yippeee, I couldn't believe it! So POR it is.
Since we are going to be there in value season and getting a better rate on the room, DF asked if I wanted to upgrade to a delux resort, (Maybe Yacht Club). I said "No WAY". Once DH see's what WDW is all about, I envision us returning many, many times. Since we have the added expenses of our wedding this trip, I will save the Delux resort to a future trip when we do not have the added expenses of a wedding, or treating our guests to expensive dinners and what not!
I have always been "PRO DISNEY" I would reccomend a WDW vacation to everyone. Evertime it was my turn me choose our family's vacation, you can guess what my choice was. This didn't always make my sister too happy. But I agree with the other poster who said where else can you go and see 11 countries...(or something like that). I HAVE been to many countries (my sister and I like to travel) and am planning a trip to Italy, and France (DL Paris) this summer. I have been to WDW in FL several times, and I am more excited to go back there than I am about my trip overseas....September can't get here soon enough!
WDW truely is the Happiest Place on earth!!!! Pretty soon DF will find out why!
Sorry about such a long post. And congrats to all you future brides out there, and all you brides who are now Newlyweds!
