It's that time again, where you have returned home from your trip and you need to go through all the photos and video that you have taken on your Disney trip.

I usually do a video of each of the trips we take using still shots and video clips, but this year I want to do something different. Any tips or tricks on how to use my pictures and video in a home movie program and put them to good use? I am using Magix 2014 Pro.

I would also appreciate suggestions for music to use, but not just the usual Disney park stuff.

I like to find Disney music....but it is either from a different artist or maybe a little upbeat. It changes it up a little.

OP, my biggest tip is, don't be afraid to edit out the video. I've found over the years that clipping out only the very best parts of the video I've taken makes our home movies much more enjoyable, and not overly long.

I also take the very, very best clips from the entire trip and put them at the end, at 1/2 speed with music of your choice. Adds a nice dramatic ending.

I take a pretty good amount of video on our trips, so clipping out only the best parts is important to keep the video fresh and not soooooooo long.

One of my favorites for that, Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah by Louis Armstrong...

I'm another one who enjoys making vacation videos of our trips. It is a fun way to bring that vacation back to life once the trip is over!! I also enjoy watching others vacation videos as it gives me new ideas..especially in the editing process.
I took up video making as a hobby several years ago and have made videos of our last few vacations as well as family and neighborhood parties. Our trip to Disney in May will be my 1st trip to Disney with video recorders!!
I'm no expert but here are a few things I've learned that make for better videos....
Tip#1...support your video recorder. Nothing worse than trying to watch a video that is bouncing all over the place.
Tip #2...Take lots of video. Try to get your family to have fun with you recording them. The more footage you have, the more you have to work with in editing.
Tip #3..Keep your finished video short...say 10 minutes max. I've found that people get bored if the video is too long.

I look forward to seeing some of your videos!!

I've been using Windows Movie Maker for years to give our family a way to enjoy our pictures and videos from our vacations. I do a combination of pictures and video clips and they ususally end up in the 30-45 minute range. Long by some standards, but my kids love watching them. We sometimes have "vacation night" where we eat pizza and watch several in a row.

I do a mix of Disney music plus other songs that our family likes and that fit the scences. I don't know how legal this is, but there is a guy on Youtube named "MrThemeParkAudios" that has a ton of music and audio files from Disneyworld. I used a Youtube to MP3 converter to put the music into my vidoes (I'd buy it from Disney if I knew how).

Thanks for the tips. Time to get to work!

I find the editing process is both the most time consuming / most enjoyable part of making a movie.

We used a GoPro on a lot of the rides , some of it became a little redundant, but was able to get some good on ride video.

I'm still very much a beginner in vid editing, but having lots of fun and capturing some fun memories in the process.

It's not unusual for us to come home with more than 8 hrs of footage, our 2004 trip is on 8 DVDs. We use our vids to both remember the high points of a given trip but also to put us 'in the moment' when we need a Dis fix between trips. For this we prefer the ambient sounds in WDW as opposed to a sound track and for some reason we really enjoy watching video shot from Disney transportation. We have several from the horse trolley as we head up Main Street to the Castle, the full People Mover ride and the Friendship boat from DHS to S/D where we usually get off. Nearly every morning I have a cigar on the BoardWalk near Atlantic Dance as the sun rises. This Oct I just set the cam on and passively videoed the scene from there. This all may seem lame to some but these are the things that evoke WDW atmosphere to us.
