When we were on the Wonder in Februayr '03, our head waiter said that Disney was working on a new ship that would sail from the west coast to Hawaii. Any truth to this? I'd love it and be there in a heart beat. My DH and children, Disney and Hawaii all in one package. What could be better?

i wish.. see, im stuck in oahu untill *checks* 4 days till i leave acording to this post, and always wished to be on disney cruse.. hehe.. lol.. back on topic, i doupt.. another 2 or 3 ships to build for disney.. and where would they stop? i think it is better in florida where it stops at their own island.. how would they do that in hawaii unless disney has somthing here to.. *remembers the theme park to be planned to be made close by..* oh yes.. that place.. rumors say its disney.. there will be a big lagoon w/ a small volcanic island within it, rollercoasters, etc.. how noisy it will be.. getting way off topic here.. one word, Naw..

in the eternal words of my ex roommate (Hawaiian)....

nah Braddah... that's not tha truth....

Hi RunAwayDoomBuggy! So traveling from one paradise to another soon? Wow, must be rough. ;)

I can't imagine Disney investing in another island. Unless they already have one... I could see a cruise ship leaving southern California for Mexico or maybe even Alaska though. I've always wanted to try a cruise to Alaska.

But I wasn't suggesting they invest in another island. We were on a Hawaiian cruise two years ago. It was a week long and stopped at several islands. It was great, but even greater would have been to be on a Disney ship with my kids and activities for them when they didn't want to do what we wanted to do.

Oh well. Thanks for the sorry news.

Don't hold you breath. The cruise market to Hawaii is limited, a niche segment at best (the Caribbean offers much of the same environment and is a lot easier and cheaper for many people to cruise to). That's why on a handful of the major lines offer ayathing there.

is BOOMING! Alaska bends over BACKWARDS and SIDEWAYS for the cruise lines that come here during the summer (some Alaskans think too much so). It is the majority of our tourists in the summer months. Seems a lot of folks are intimidated by Alaska and feel the cruise is a good way to let someone else handle the driving. Do I think a Disney Cruise ship will ever come here? Nope. Alaska is the Last Frontier. We are what they have caricatured in the Wilderness Lodge and Blizzard Beach. Disney is all about being able to control an environment and Alaska is nothing but uncontrollable.

Don't get me wrong I would LOVE a West Coast Disney Cruise ship. There are many places they could go besides the Hawaiian Islands (which seems unlikely as that is a 10 day cruise to get there, see an island or two and get back) and Alaska. There is Mexico, a cruise up the coast to British Columbia. There is even a cruise out of New York (forget by which line) which advertises that it goes NOWHERE!

This would be a nice addition to the neglected West Coast/Disneyland Resort operation. Seems like an awfully big expansion for them though. Are they regularly filling up the two ships they have now? Why would they not add another ship or two to the Canaveral location if they are? Setting up a new base of operations is a HUGE undertaking.
