Disney Gift Cards

I've seen people paying at restaurants and stores with gift cards. What is the best way to get these? I saw some people use a Target card to buy theirs (because of their 5% off I think?) I assume you can only do this in store, because I don't see them online. I don't have a Disney Visa card, but do have a Capital One which has a pretty good rewards system. What is the discount with a Disney Visa? Can anyone recommend how they get their cards and save the most $$$?

I paid for our whole vacation with disney gift cards from target. They only came in $50 increments so you can imagine how many gift cards I had to call in! It was a bit tedious, but I figured an extra 5% off of a vacation was too good to pass up. I also have the disney Visa card, but DH and I try to avoid using credits cards too much (we both tend to be spenders, so it's better for us to see our available balance in our spending account easily :) so anyway I earned a total of like $25 disney dollars to use over the course of a year-- not much!

My local BJ's (wholesale club) sells Disney gift cards for discount. I believe it is $96 for a $100 gift card.

Yea, it sounds like my Capital One would do better as far as reward points. I was thinking for some reason you got a better deal buying Disney gift cards with a Disney Visa (kind of like the Target takes off 5%). That is awesome about using those for your entire vacation! :D I can only imagine when you went to make final payment on it.... Even if you only had $2000 to pay, that would have been forty cards. Kudos because that's pretty clever. I guess I can still do that on the rest of what I owe too!:cheer2:

I have heard of those but don't think we have one around here. I'm going to Google their locations. Thanks!

We are also paying of our trip with GC from Target getting the 5 percent off. I just apply the payments online so I dont have to call. I have even paid for my MNSSHP and Pirates and Pals cruise, overall I have saved about 350 dollars.

Can I make a payment directly to Disney if I booked through a travel agent? I don't mind sitting there punching in a thousand numbers, but wouldn't expect my TA to want to.

We used a bunch of Target GCs towards our cruise balance earlier this month. I emailed the codes to my TA and she took care of getting them applied to our balance.

It was a good deal because the 5% comes straight off the top of the card, so it's instant savings. After gift cards, I used my Disney Visa to pay the rest of the balance, and that will give me Disney cash back later on.

I went & got them for my last trip at Target but waited to use them while I was there b/c I couldn't see where to make payments online. How do you do this? It will be much easier for next time if I prepay before I leave instead of having to reconcile my balance each night & carrying the rest of the GCs in the park for the last day.

You must call in and read the gift card numbers to the CM. You can only enter one gift card if attempting to do it online which isn't much help when you have a few to apply.

Ok. Thanks! :)

Does anyone buy GC to use for shopping ahead of your vacation? I've done it for Disneyland and thinking of buying them ahead for Disney World so I don't have to put my bad habit of over shopping on my room charge and then onto my credit card ... It's like putting money aside for trip without it being cash.

For a different kind of savings, I buy my GCs at Kroger and get fuel points. It is 2x fuel points ($1= 2 points) and they also run promos where it can be 4x fuel points. This has come in quite handy with gas being so expensive! I will buy the cards with my Disney Visa and then also get Disney points as well! It's a savings on our overall household budget as opposed to just the vacation budget!

I haven't done this but my kids school has a program for buying gift cards they receive a % towards the school for each gift card bought.

That's what we've done. We figured out rough estimate for each day and plan on taking that amount of gift cards into the park each day. We're also using it for meals-my mom has tables in wonderland card so we can just put gift cards in to pay for our share since she has to be the one to pay (ie-we can't charge it back to room or use our credit cards).
