Disney Gift Cards

I read that Disney has discontinued Disney Dollars, but I did see that you can buy Disney gift cards to use at WDW. Does anyone know if you can use the gift cards the same way as Disney Dollars. For instance, has anyone ever used them to pay for their hotel or meals? I used to collect disney dollars throughout the year as a way to save for our trip. I would like to do that with the gift cards too if possible.

I've used the Disney GC's to pay for my package, meals, merchandise and onboard the DCL ships for stateroom charges. The only negative is that unlike Disney Dollars, you do not get any cash as change for your purchases. The balance just stays on the card until you use it.

I always pre-purchase gift cards for our Disney trips and I have never had any problems using them at WDW. I've used them all over including restaurants, snack stands and stores. I save coins and order one everytime I get 25$. It's an easy to save for spending money

I did the room charge thing and then the night before we checked out, went down to the concierge and had them apply my disney gift cards (and my rewards card) to toward the room charge. Worked perfectly

I love using them.
I even used it last year at the Food and Wine Festival.
The clerks looked at it funny, but then found the area or button to select,
after they scanned the card.
Last year was the first year, you cold purchase a Disney Gift Card, that tied around your wrist to use at the FWF.
