I have been buying Disney gift cards for our up coming trip, which I thought was a good idea since there was no shipping charge. Now I am having second thoughts. A lot to keep track of, how much left on cards and now heard that they are not taken at all places. I did this when we went on a Disney cruise and had no problems applying the cards to our ship board account. Does anyone know if I can place these cards, along with a credit card, on our hotel card? That way I would not have to keep track of each card and when they are used up the credit card would be charged? Thanks

I don't see why you couldn't. Another thing to do (depending on the amounts) is use them when you know you spent "over" the amount on the card. Example: If you have one dedicated card to be the "leftover" card and you spend $27.48 at a store, pay with your $25 gift card and use the "leftover" card for the $2.48. Then you only have to worry about the balance on that one card.

Could you also just put everything onto one card if you can't put it on your room? Then I would think it would print out on your reciept (like the meal credits do) what's left on the card. That would be easier to keep track of too.

Good luck!:goodvibes

Yep, you can just put them all on your room as a credit when you check in. We had a few to use this year but we didn't end up putting them on our room, we just used one each time we had a larger purchase (over $25 since that was our largest card) and then paid the balance with room charge, or cash. I know it's all the same in the end but it was like having a discount on a bunch of our purchases. This way each card only had to be used once and then we'd just have the cashier pitch it so it wouldn't get confusing.

The cashier will be able to tell you the balance remaining on your card. I put a small label in the corner of my card and keep track of the current amount with a pencil.
You can pay for just about everything on property with a gift card including your hotel bill.

We are staying off site, but have quite a few gift cards in varying denominations. I'm going to guard them with my life on the flight, and then we will be purchasing our park tickets when we get in. The original plan was to buy them from the Disney Store--oh well. It does make me a little nervous to travel with that much "money".

What is left over will be used for food at the parks. And each kid is getting one gift card that is just theirs to use. They will be responsible for keeping track of their balance. So much easier than giving them cash to spend for souvies and then having to worry about them losing it.

I love the Disney Gift Cards. The receipt will show how much is left on the card and I would just wrap the receipt around the card before putting it away in my wallet. Next purchase, just stow away the first receipt and wrap the new receipt around the card. That way, I can keep up with the way I spend my money and know how much I have left.

I love the gift cards and I can order them from my DD school through there script program and a % goes to pay for her fieldtrips:banana:

In WDW they are taken in TONS of places. They are taken most places at DLR, but WDW has more options.

Here's a link to the WDW specific page at disneygiftcard dot com.

I have to assume the receipts are the same at WDW, so I'll tell you that EVERY receipt I got at DLR had the remainder of the balance of the gift card. I just kept the receipt with the giftcard and it was really easy.

And if you goof, just whip out another card. No biggie.

I love budgeting with giftcards. Though I don't buy them ahead of time; I keep money in savings and then transfer it to checking at the last minute, then buy a hefty giftcard once I get to Disneyland/DCA and work off of that. Each trip where I have used giftcards instead of debit/credit/cash, I have come in UNDER budget with souvenirs and food.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but can you use the gift cards to pay your deposit on your vacation package??

I paid for my entire trip last year using gift cards. The deposit, the package, the extras while at the park.

The CM on the phone laughed and laughed as I qouted the numbers from 15 gift cards to pay for our package. She had never ran into it and thought it was such a neat idea.

Thanks for answering so quickly! I am going to ask for Disney gift cards for Christmas and my birthday and then put them towards our deposit.

I posted this a couple of weeks ago - but incentone.com is still running the deal for 5% off gift cards, including disney gift cards. Check out the thread if your stocking up before your next trip! (note there is a $3 processing fee so you really need to be ordering a large amount to make any type of real savings)

you can apply the gift cards on to your room account. I did this this past August when I had several gift cards to use. I didn't want to have to carry them all around with me...I prefer to use the room charge whenever possible. I like to get the print out at the end of the vacation so I can see every charge....helps me to better budget for the next time!!

Anyway, some CM's do not know you can apply the gift cards to the room account. I was told on two occasions that I could not when I had already done it previously. I kindly pointed out that it can be done, and the CM figured it out. You do also have to have a cc on file, but as long as you don't go over the gift card credit, your cc will not be charged.
