Disney Gift Cards Question

Can you use the Disney Store gift cards at WDW? I'm wanting to buy gift cards everytime I have extra money as a way of saving to pay for our meals but I hate buying $50 gift cards online. I would rather at least put $200 or $300 on each one. Has anyone bought them at the Disney Store and used them for TS meals?

Yes, we used them for everything (food and souvinier related). I do know that some people even use them to pay for their Disney hotel.

It was a really great way to save some $$! Also, they can be returned for a refund - provided they are unused - once you use them you can't get your $$ back.

D~

DH and myself use disney gift cards when we go down. We buy them at the Disney Store and put money on the sameone as we have the extra cash. I believe that you can put up to $1,000.00 on each card.

I have wondered about this as well. But the only draw back I have is I'm not close to a Disney Store so I would have to order from the wdw web site and I think you can only do up to $100.
I just saw I can do up to $500 on the Disneyshopping.com tho

Also where can you not use them? Do most restaurants and stores accept them?

The only place we couldn't use it was to hook it up to the room key for charging. We just ask before using it. That way if there is a problem then we use another payment method. But we can not think of any place that ever said they didn't take it.

Great. I think this would be an easy way not to spend it on other things

Thanks everyone! I'm close to a Disney Store (even though I hate going to the mall) and I think this would be an easy way to save our food and play money. I'm also going to buy each of the kids one so they know exactly how much they have to spend and they will have to keep track of it. Is there anywhere on property that you can't use them?

We used them everywhere on our last trip.

Although you can't attach them to your KTTW card, I did read on another post last year, you could then go down to the front desk at night and pay down your balance with these cards.

We are headed back in September, and we bring very little cash, just gift cards, pre bought with the $$ we have been saving!

There are a small number of places you can't use them - Joffe coffee carts come to mind (they don't take DDP either). Otherwise you can pretty much use them anywhere - we did in December. :)

This is exactly what we are doing too. Every pay period, I add $100 onto the giftcard. Which, btw...says right on the back that it is good for Disney World, Disney Land, and the cruise. Also, my mother bought the kids $15 each in Disney Dollars for Easter (instead of candy). It all adds up. I plan to have $1000 on the giftcards and bring some cash for tips and places that don't take the giftcard. For us, it's a great way to budget.

Can you use them at the Rainforest Cafe and T-Rex Cafe at DTD? Also can you use it at the stores at DTD?

I used my GC at TRex and at World of Disney at DTD. I'm not sure of any other place since those were the only two places we visited.

If you're staying on-site, you can use them towards room charges. How you do it is up to the CM you get at check-in. Some years we are able to put them as a "credit" towards our room charges when we check in, just like they are cash. Other years we've gotten CMs who didn't know how to do this. To save time at check-in, we would just go back to the registration desk after a few days and apply them towards the balance we had run up.
