Disney Gift Cards on EBAY... Question...

I was just looking on EBAY & did a search for Disney cards. I noticed that some people are paying over face value for the card.... Some bids are a few cents over & others are a few dollars & still time left to bid. Why on earth would someone bid over & just not buy their own gift card.....

I've always wondered this as well...perhaps they don't have a Disney store in their area???

Which is a RIP OFF because those formula checks come FREE from the manufacturers.

It is my understanding that there are some sites, that if you make an eBay payment through them, you actually get cash (or a credit back) which makes the effective cost of the cards less than their face value.

Personally I would not trust any of those sites because they have to be making their money somewhere.

Like SR or QR? I buy gift cards on Ebay but I won't pay face value. I won't buy it unless it's at least $10 less.

I have always wondered this as well. Even if they don't have the Disney Store close by, if they have internet they can order it online. Also some of them go over face value and have shipping too Good deal though if you wanted to sell one.

That's no longer a valid argument since Disney Gift Cards are commonly available at major retailers, everywhere (namely, Walgreens, and the Kroger and SuperValu families of stores, nationwide).

As for the subject at hand, it's not just Disney -- pre-paid gas cards have been known to generate "slightly more" than their face value, too...

I think it has to do with cashback programs and possibly the use of ebay bucks. If the person is buying a gift card that is $5.00 over but is going to get $10 in cashback and/or has $10 in ebay bucks, they aren't going to care about the extra cost because to them, it isn't coming out of their pocket.

A couple of months ago, Ebay sent me a 10% off coupon for any purchase up to $1000. I used that to purchase a Disney Gift Card for a few dollars over face value. Coupled with the MrRebates 5% rebate available at the time (plus the Ebay Bucks rebate), I saved quite a bit of money on a payment toward our next Disney trip ... even though my Ebay purchase was technically higher than the gift card value.

I'd imagine that others are doing similar things when they pay over face value for a gift card.

I do some light selling and buying on ebay but I don't know what ebay bucks are. How do you get them? I do know about ebates.

Gift cards are a huge scam area on eBay. I wouldn't even considering buying one there.

Here is my take because I sell on ebay when i can. I consider the money in my paypal account "found" and if i have to make a purchase i would prefer to use that money than use a credit card. I PERSONALLY would still never pay over face value because it wouldnt be a deal to me.

I read recently that small mom and pop stores will buy formula checks for less then face value and run them throught there registers as checks. They then get face value plus whatever the company stipulates they will pay for process and handling. They would also get there rebates from ebates and ebay bucks for buying them.

I have questioned the iTunes cards from a seller and the response I got actually makes sense. People in other countries can't buy from the US iTunes store unless they have a credit card registered to a US address. If you have a gift card to the US iTunes store then you can use it. Different countries' iTunes stores have different music so I can now understand that. However other cards going above face value just boggles the mind.

I recently sold some of my Pandora beads on Ebay, and some were purchased for a higher price than you can buy the same bead (new) at the store or online. I actually felt bad taking more money for the bead than they were worth, and wanted to tell the people to retract their bids and go to the pandora website and buy the bead there! Someone told me that the person might have had some paypal money that was going to expire and needed to be used right away.

I like to purchase brighton jewelery on Ebay. I always check the Brighton website for the selling price prior to bidding. But, have also wondered why someone will pay more than retail for an item. Maybe it's the bidding frenzy people get in.
