Disney gift cards for airfare?

We are just starting to buy and save Disney gift cards for a possible trip next January. I've already bought our park tickets through the Orbitz/Ebates deal the other day, thanks to this awesome board!!!! My question is, if I book our resort stay and maybe our airfare (should we choose to fly instead of drive), can you use Disney gift cards to pay for the airfare, too?? I would assume so since you are booking it through the Disney site/account.

You have to have a package booked in order to book airfare through Disney. If you do a package online, you can only use one gift card for the "deposit" but Disney makes you pay for the entire cost of your airfare at the time of booking.

I don't know if you can use more GCs when you book by phone.

And Disney airfare is usually not the best price or flight times.
