i know before gift cards that were purchased at Disney stores here in Canada were only able to be used at Disney stores in Canada and NOT at WDW! Is this still the case? A friend said that a CM just recently told her that yes they could be used at the parks even if they were purchased here. I tend to disagree but though I would research further.

Thanks,

No. Unfortunately Canadian purchased Disney GC cannot be used in the US.

Which makes sense but still bums me out.

Can you imagine if we could buy them here and use them at face value at the Theme Parks? Sigh, one can dream.

Nope. You can't buy GC's in Canadian funds and then use them in the USA. I have a friend who lives in Michigan buy them for me and ship them here, and then I Paypal her the money. I like to give them to my son as his birthday gift so he can use them on trips.

That's what I thought. Thanks for the responses. alc571, I'm getting my MIL to pick some up in Calias next time she goes?

I keep reading about Americans getting their Disney gift cards on sale on websites and through Target. I wish there was a similar way for us to save a few dollars !

Yes, you used to be able to use your Canadian Target credit card from RBC at Target stores in the US just like you can use the American Target card and get the 5% savings. It even kept going after Cdn Target died until RBC finished replacing all the Target credit cards with regular ones. Bummer.

I actually called WDW about it too, and they said that if you wanted gift cards that are to be gifts to use at WDW, the only ways Canadians can get them ahead of time is go across the border and buy them in the U.S., OR you can order gift cards from the Disney site that they WILL ship to Canada, but the flat rate shipping rate is $25. I asked her to double check that because I couldn't believe they'd charge $25 to send me a $25 gift card. And she confirmed that it does make NO sense, but that IS the correct information.

She went one step further and recommended I make a home made gift certificate with the amount, then just buy them once we arrive. She told me that once you get to any of the Disney properties, whether its a park or resort, its pretty tough to find somewhere NOT selling gift cards.

**I realize this isn't applicable to everyone.**

We go to Sam's Club in Niagara Falls. They sell $150USD Disney Gift Cards for $143USD (and change). Since we have to pay for our trips in US dollars, we simply take it with us and buy the Gift Cards. Disney has a website that allows you to consolidate all of the cards into one card (max $1,000USD) and we pay our US travel agent with the gift card. Years ago we started doing the 'up front' payment because of the interest/conversion costs on our credit cards was more than what we wanted to spend. They don't sell anything other than $150USD packages, but last time we were there, they had a whole display rack with 'hundreds' of the packages on it. We both said 'wow'.

We usually go to either a Buffalo Bisons game or touristy stuff in the Niagara Region and we buy our gift cards then.

Jim.
