Disney gift card from Target

I bought a Disney gift card at Target form my DD and DSIL for their anniversary which was while we were at WDW. They went to dinner at BOG and gave the server the card who then told them there was nothing on the card. He tried it twice and nothing. My DD called the number on the card and yup nothing on there. :sad2: I have the receipt so hopefully I won't have a problem going back to Target with the card but I'm wondering if anybody knows if I can then exchange it for a different gift card. The Disney card is of no use now since we are home. I'm hoping to get a gift card for another restaurant for them. Anybody else ever have this problem? I have never bought a gift card at Target and now I'm wondering if I ever will again. Normally, I would have purchased it at a Disney store but the one near us has closed.

Sounds like the card wasn't activated when they rang it up. Double check to make sure that specific card is listed on your receipt by matching the numbers on the back. I thought this happened to me, but it turned out I ended up with an extra card that I didn't pay for so it was never activated. As long as you haven't scratched off the back part of the card to reveal the code, you should be able to return it rather than exchange it.

I just bought a bunch of gift cards at Target. Checked my receipt when I got home and sure enough one of the cards was not rung up. The numbers on the gift card will be on your receipt so you can match them.

Ugh...I'm pretty sure the back part was scratched off because my daughter had to do that when she called to check if there was anything on the card. I didn't know the card # was on the receipt so I'm going to look.

I was actually going to suggest this - check online. You'll be able to see if/when it was activated and if/when it was used. When I've checked online it shows the funding or the activation date and then the date I redeemed them and the balance at zero.

for future reference you can order gift cards from disneygiftcard.com

I've had it happen, but not with a Disney gift card. The same thing, I didn't need it anymore as it was a restaurant that I was going to while out of town.

I'm fairly certain they just refunded the $$ which you could then use to repurchase. I would have used my red card so I'm guessing they just looked up the purchase because I don't think I still had the receipt.

Irrelevant to this conversations since the whole point is to save the 5% at Target with the red card. :)

No. The comment was quite relevant.

If you go and reread the OP's original post you will see that she commented that 'she would have purchased the gift card from the Disney Store but the one near her has closed'.

The poster you responded to gave her the information that she could get a card at another location besides Target.

Were you able to get the issue resolved?

I haven't gone to Target yet since it is about a 20 minute ride from my home. I am thinking I will get there on Saturday.

If we read this right...your pretty sure the back of the card was already scratched off before you used it?

If this is the case...this is a major scam going on.
These low life people go to the store where the gift cards are hanging in a rack ( just like target) they write down the card number or take a photo
Scratch the code are off and record that information and just leave the card hanging on the rack in the store.
At some point someone comes along to buy said card...and this Thief just goes online to check the cards balance time to time. When some buys the card and it's activated it will show a balance online...then they use the card details to buy online. Majority of the time they have already spent the cards full amount...before you even think about using the card. As most people buy gift card don't use them for sometime after purchasing them. Even more so if they buy them for a gift and give th cards to another party. As they will keep the card for some time before using it

This is why some stores are taking gift cards off the retail floor space. And placing theme behind a cashier or customer service desks...or in locked cases.
Most big box stores are refusing to do this...as retail researches have shown when the cards are taken off the floor or check out lines. The sales of gift cards plummets by several hundred percent.

Always check your cards when buying them and make sure the foil is not scratched off.

FYI there are a number if gift cards that don't have the added protection if the scratch off code. Naturally, mothered scam artist target these cards as well...as there is no way for the consumer buying them to know that they have been skimmed. The scratch off kind is easy...as the code will already be scratched off...which alerts a savvy buyer that something is not right.

There is another more sophisticated scam going on with gift cards. But this does not affect anyone buying a card that has already had its balanced depleted.
And I'm not sure if a public form is the right place to post those details.
The above is already questionable.

Long story short be sure to check all your gift cards before buying them. If you even suspect any tampering..get another card
As once the card is activated and loaded with funds..those funds spent...you can never get your money back. As the card company shows that the gift card was used to make a purr base...and it's rather difficult to prove you did not make those purchases. (If someone stole the cards information ore purchase)

The security code on the back of the card was not scratched off before I bought it. My daughter did it when she called the gift card company to check to see if there was anything on the card. So we went to Target and then woman there called the gift card company and was able to speak to somebody to check the history of the card. Turns out the card was used on the day in question. Now my DD and DSIL are following up on this. They paid the full amount on their food bill so what happened to the $50 from the gift card. Hopefully, they will get to the bottom of this and get the $50 credit.

Somebody definitely used their card. How sad. Are you able to see the history of the card as PP mentioned?

I bought cards in another store and the cashier didn't activate them correctly. I wish this would have been your case after all.

I'm hoping somehow they can get to the bottom of this. If it was a Disney employee I'm hoping they will be able to find out who it was. We were told it was swiped twice. Once for $17 and I guess the second time for the rest. Hopefully, we can get to the bottom of this. Never had anything like this happen before.

If you call the number on the back of the gift card, it should tell you when the purchases were made (time/date)>.

Are you relatives sure they didn't use the gift card at any of the other Disney restaurants/resorts/merchandise? I know I sometimes forget which Disney gift card I've used.

We know the gift card was used the day they went to the restaurant per the gift card people. But it was not taken off of their bill. We gave it to them to use at the restaurant for their anniversary and it was the only gift card they had. When they came back from dinner, that is when they told us what happened. I haven't asked my DD yet if they got to the bottom of it yet. I have to remember to ask her later.

I got 5 of these from Target online for our upcoming trip. Now I am a wreck worried that they won't work. If we have a problem can we just take them to Target in Orlando to get them activated?

I used up $2500 worth of $50 target/disney gift cards. Every one was good to go! No worries.

The problem that the OP's daughter ran into isn't that the card was not activated. It appears that the funds were skimmed off of the card during her daughter's visit to Disney.

Just call the phone number on the back of one of the cards if you're worried about the balance on the cards that you have. You should be able to verify that they are active and that the amount is correct that way. Do it before you leave for your vacation and that way you won't waste precious vacation time trying to solve a problem that you could solve at home. If they aren't activated, then call Target customer service. Have your receipt handy. They should be able to fix it for you.
