I am pretty sure the answer to this is going to be a big fat NO, but still thought I would ask just in case.

I have about $1000 set aside in cash to take to WDW for spending money. In an effort to maximize my Disney Visa rewards, I want to deposit the money into the bank, use my Disney Visa to buy Disney gift cards, earn 2% in Disney Rewards for the purchase of the gift cards, payoff the Visa (I never keep a balance on it and use it for literally everything I can) and then take the gift cards to spend at wdw instead of cash. My questions is if the disney gift cards can be converted back to cash in the unlikely event that we dont manage to spend all $1000 of the gift cards while we are there?

No. Gift cards are not refundable.

A gift card swap site might find you someone looking to trade a disney GC for one of theirs, if your amounts matched up. Selling them online will not get you all your money back though.

depending on how much you have left over, I would either save them for the next trip, or use them up. They're good for just about anything, and if there any upcoming birthdays or other occasions yoo might need a gift for, it might be a good excuse to use it for that.

This is a smart plan, but gave me a headache reading it. :goodvibes The cards are not refundable, but they don't expire, so you can use them towards future purchases and vacations. Plus you never know when you have an unexpected birthday or Christmas gift and you can just hand them a gift card. So they will work out for you in the end.

Why not just use the card while you are at Disney and pay it off as soon as you get home?

One thing to remember is that if you are planning to buy at least $50 in souvenirs, it would probably be a better deal to use the Disney Visa in the gift shops to get that 10% discount instead of using the gift cards.

WOW ! you want a gift card purchase to save $20.00, also a money back guarantee. Save the hassle and keep the cash.

You might as well just use your Disney Visa to pay for everything at WDW. You earn the same rewards this way.

That's what we do with our rewards CCs. There's no benefit to switching it to gift cards other than to help with budgeting. Plus, CCs are more secure againts theft than gift cards.

Nope, you can not refund a giftcard. There are lots of reasons retailers do this, but understand a giftcard is a tender, not merchandise.

I learned that lesson my first year, no discount with the gc i got with my rewards. So you get a 10% discount and if you spend $200 on souvenirs, you will save $20. Sounds like a lot but since most gift shops have the same things we waited to buy everything in 1-2 purchases and it worked perfectly. Plus as pointed out if stolen you could lose all the money on your giftcard. I say skip the giftcards and just put it on your card and pay it off. Less risk, less hassle, much easier. If you must I would split it then between giftcards and the CC.:goodvibes

I wouldn't take that risk just to get $20 in rewards (and what is the reward-is it more gift cards that you don't need?) I agree with others just use the disney visa for your purchases at disney. :)

If a refund is done on Gift Cards it would be an exception to policy. You would have to have the original receipt and the refund would be back to the method of payment. So if it was done, it would be credited back to the Visa and you would lose rewards credits.
