Disney Gift Card App

So I'd been happily using the Disney Gift Card App for a few months now and yesterday I went to enter in a new gift card. The app told me I needed to be connected to the Internet. Well I was. But I rebooted, turned the wifi on and off, checked to make sure I could access the Internet, etc. Still error. Took the app off and reloaded it. Same thing. From the reviews in the App Store it looks like I am not alone. And the app itself does not appear to have been updated in years. I left it on in hope that maybe it'll somehow fix itself but it's not looking hopeful.
So my question is, is there another app out there to keep track of your gift card balances? I tried GoWallet that claimed to support Disney gift cards but it doesn't. You have to manually input your balance. And if I have to do that, I might as well just write it on some masking tape on the back!
Either Android or Apple is fine.

I gave up on the app months ago. I use the Disney Vacation Account to consolidate all my cards when I'm using them to pay for trips. In the parks I just keep the most recent receipt wrapped around the gift card so I know the balance.

Hmm, I've never had mine ask for an internet connection, weird. I just opened mine and all seems fine. I don't have a new card to add so I can't test it for you. So far any other gift card app I've tried is all manual and doesn't update the balance like this one does. I wish they'd get with the times and create an app where you could add them to your general Disney account and create a barcode kind of like Target does. I'll be following, maybe someone knows of a good app.

IIRC, it did recently have an update. I have the iphone 5s and I probably shouldn't have to do this but I do occasionally go into my iTunes account on my desktop and look at my apps. There is where it will tell me which apps have an update available. Then I plug my phone in and sync it.

I'm thinking there is probably something in "Settings" on my phone that will do this automatically or at least alert me that an update is available but sometimes when I mess with my phone I end up making things worse.


ETA: I don't often add new gift cards but when I do, there's no problems.

You should get little badges on the App Store app showing you have updates. Or you can just click on "purchased" and it will show the apps that need updated. You can go to settings on your phone and under the App Store you can select to auto update your apps.

No problem, much easier than having to sync to iTunes every time.

It worked just fine until yesterday. I actually deleted the app and put it back on so if actually had updated it would have gotten the newest version. I've seen people in the reviews saying it happened to them too, so I have no idea. I run it on an ipad which might be part of the problem, who knows? I've heard others saying it constantly crashes, etc too, it's almost random. (I'm thinking of asking the husband to try it on his, it'll probably work!)

That's weird, that go wallet has a scanner to scan the card and claims to automatically keep track of them. I meant to test it out but my Mom sent Walmart money cards and I was full of rage after trying to get them activated, lol.

Disney gift cards don't have anything to scan though and when I put them in with the numbers it tells me I have to enter the balance.
Now the Disney Gift Card App seems to be working again. It didn't work for two days . . .
So confused.

My husband said that too. Or that they were doing server work. I think I'll just see how the app works with the low tech old fashioned backup of either masking tape or rubberbanding the receipts.

I used this app successfully on our last Disneyland trip in September 2014 with an iPhone 5. We brought a bunch of gift cards with us to pay for food, souvenirs and to upgrade our park hoppers to AP's. It was super helpful in keeping tracking of purchases and balances. In October, after upgrading my iPhone, I wanted to delete the old gifts cards that had zero balances. Every time I tried the "Remove Card" option the app completely locked up. I've tried deleting and reinstalling the app without success. I can add new cards and edit them, but just can't remove them. I tried emailing Disney but never received a response. As long as it continues to update the balances, I can live with deleting the app and starting over every time we go on a new trip, but I just wish they would fix the problem. I just emailed them again.

Bumping this thread because all of a sudden this app stopped working for me. And it doesn't seem to be in the App Store anymore? Did this app get discontinued for some reason? I loved it!

The app is no longer supported by the developer. It's possible that recent updates to your phone's operating system are not compatible with the app. You might want to try the disneygiftcard website. You can track the balance on your GCs under the "manage" tab. It has a mobile version that works on smartphones.

I use the Gyft app to keep track of all my GCs.
