We went to Cali Grill in august and LOVED IT, I ordered the stuffed pasta dish and sons and DH had the chicken and pork tend.
My question is, how is the sushi?? OK, let me fill you in a little...we do not eat the 'raw fish' sushi but i am curious about this one:
:confused3 California Roll - Made with jumbo lumb crab, avocado and cucumber.

And i have to tell you, I have NOOOO IDEA what these are.... :confused3

Double Crunch Rainbow Roll - Cobia, Salmon, Tuna, Tempura crunch, and Tobikko.:confused3

Spicy Kazan Roll - Crab, shrimp, bay scallops, tuna, and fireball sauce. - :confused3
Tempura "Malibu" Roll - Grouper, snapper, cobia, hamachi, tuna tartare, and spicy sesame sauce. :sad2:
Yellowfin Tuna Three Ways - Poki, Tartare, and Tataki. -:scared:
Yoshie's Deluxe Sushi Platter - Maki and Nigiri. -:confused3

And what can you tell me about the flatbreads as appetizers?
Chef's Garden" Heirloom Tomato Flatbread - Made with roasted garlic, provolone and arugula. -
"Sicilian Flatbread" - Made with sopressata, tomato compote, provolone cheese, and pepperoncini relish. -
Roasted Chicken Flatbread - Made with Applewood smoked bacon, crisp romaine, caramelized onions, and lemon mayo. -

Was there last week and had tuna 3 ways. Very, very good. My husband, who eats alot of sushi, says this place has the best he has ever eaten. If you aren't into raw fish tho, choose carefullly or skip it. Maybe try something elsewhere before you spend the money for it at CG.

Mmmmm.....that Malibu Tempura Roll sounds awesome!

Probably about $20 a roll though. :faint:

Double Crunch Rainbow Roll: - Cobia, Salmon, Tuna, Tempura crunch, and Tobikko

Cobia: Also known as Lemonfish. A large fish that runs in the Gulf of Mexco.
Salmon: Cold water fish with a higher fat content.
Tuna: Probably Yellowfin. Deep red color. Clean flavor.
Tempura Crunch: Basically this is Tempura batter fried and then crumbled to place in the rolls.
Tobiko: Flying Fish Roe (eggs). They add the 2nd crunch

Most of the seafood listed in these rolls is raw. Crabmeat is cooked.

Nigiri is a preparation of Sushi in which the raw fish is placed on a small piece of Sushi Rice.

Maki is the more traditional rolls that you see everywhere.

I do have to say that I love California Grill but was VERY disappointed in the quality of Sushi last Saturday. It was the first time I can say that (After about 20 visits). Say 'hi' to Laurie the Bartender for me!

Cheers!

The flatbreads are great. My fave is the Fig and Prociutto. They are great apps.

The flatbreads do change. We last dined at CG 16 days ago (not that I'm counting) and none of those were on the menu if I recall correctly. The 4 cheese flatbread is always on the menu though.

I did have the roasted chicken flatbread a couple times last year and it was excellent.

We've had many different flatbreads at CG...all wonderful!!

Personal favorite item is appetizer Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli ! Yum!

DS2 always orders that!

The new chef makes a wonderful beet salad! I was in heaven.

I have to say, we had the Spicy Kazan Roll and the Double Crunch Rainbow Roll last august and loved them both!!!! Actually my DBF said they were one of the best he has had ever... :p We love love love sushi though...

You should give the California Roll a try. Who knows, you might actually like them and try some others afterwards.
