So we were sitting on the airplane coming home from WDW and got talking to the lady nearby. Seems she'd come all the way from the Bahamas. Their hotel's breakfast buffet was $49.99 for adults, $39.99 for children. Our breakfast buffet at Boma that day had been $18.99 for adults, $11.99 for children. Seemed like a great deal, especially after we spoke to her!

If you travel a lot the prices for meals at WDW don't come as a huge shock. Have you ever had a full breakfast at any of the larger central London hotels?? Now THAT's a shock.

We find Disney price comparable or better than the resturants we eat in when we go to Vegas

We agree! We think the prices overall at Disney are more than reasonable. In fact, we usually feel we get more for our money on a Disney vacation than any other destination...even considering the food prices. There is so much more to Disney Dining than just the food, there is almost always some kind of entertainment value built-in.

. . . the Bahamas . . .breakfast buffet was $49.99 for adults, $39.99 for children . . .
. . . the local JW Marriott convention hotel is that expensive
. . . but, the buffet is so much larger and expansive
. . . the offerings are so unique that the price is worth it
. . . the Bahamas are the same way, with the local foods/fruits/fish

. . . breakfast at any of the larger central London hotels?? Now THAT's a shock.
. . . well, London is the most expensive city in the world
. . . we go 2-3 times per year
. . . the hotel breakfast buffets are as good, or slightly better than WDW
. . . but, comparatively, still expensive
. . . a Big Mac is about $9.50 in US Dollars
. . . normally we just just pay with the rights to our first born

Oh yes, when I'm in London unless it's included I never have breakfast at the hotel. Usually there is a small cafe nearby where you pay a fraction and still get a good meal.

But many things in WDW, when compared what I pay at parks, museums, theatre at home are actually quite reasonable!

When we went in januari for two weeks the biggest expense by far was airfare, then the hotel (WL with roomdiscount), food and (quite a few) souvenirs was third. And we ate well :)popcorn::

Disney dining prices aren't that far off from what I pat at restaurants in my hometown.

In fairness, while Disney prices are commensurate with dining at a resort, say, in Las Vegas, the problem is what you get for the price. With the advent of the DDP, you're paying those prices for an increasingly bland and mediocre cafeteria style meal not for Le Boeuf at Robichon.

About 8 years ago, I ate at the Paris Casino breakfast buffet in Vegas, which was something like $16-17 at the time (must be over $20 today, even though Vegas inflation hasn't been as bad as Disney inflation).

Last February, we went to Disney and had character breakfast buffets at Tusker House, Crystal Palace, and Cape May. I thought the food at each was at least as good and, if anything, somewhat better than the Paris Casino (plus you get characters).

Now the really high end Vegas breakfast buffets are another story (not even Boma's breakfast buffet, arguably the best breakfast buffet on property, can compare with those).

But overall, I'm reasonably pleased with at least the above average Disney breakfast buffets. Given where you are, I think they're an overall decent value from a quality, selection, and overall experience standpoint (with or without characters).

When we ate at Johnny Rockets outside of the Atlantis on Paradise Island it cost us $64 for two hamburgers one order of French fries and two shakes.

We are going to the Atlantis this fall. I'm afraid to eat. We will be coming home very hungry :rotfl2:

I need to show this thread to the in-laws who complain about how expensive it is to eat at Disney. It's Disney, what do you think, it's the $ menu at Mickey D's?? :headache:

One of the big things around here (see location) is Korean BBQ. The "good" places are around $20/person and you have to cook your own food on a little grill in the center of the table. It's supposed to be all-you-can eat, but I've never had a very big appetite, especially when I have no idea what kind of meat I'm eating. I avoid going to those places as much as possible no matter how much the people around me rave about them.

When I was younger and went to Disney with my parents, we packed lunches every day and got counter service for dinner. It was much less expensive per person than my trips are now.
I just look at Disney food prices as part of the experience and figure it into the budget. Driving myself elsewhere or packing my lunch while on vacation is about as unappealing to me as cooking my own food while "eating out."
It works for some people, and doesn't for others.

I do the same thing when I go everywhere else. It's simply a matter of determining which experiences I find to be worth it.

London is not the most expensive city in the world. That honor usually goes to Moscow, Oslo or Tokyo (they seem to rotate). Trust me. I live in Moscow and I spend a lot of time in London, and London is a damn bargain compared to Moscow. We went to brunch at a place called Turandot a month or so ago, and it was about $175/adult and $75/kid. In London, the most I ever spent on brunch was $70-$100.

I also think food at Disney is a real bargain. I don't pay any more than I would ofor a meal of a comparable quality here (melbourne Australia) tonight we went out to an "American diner" and had a sandwhich chili fries and a shake each (2 adults) and it was $65. Even getting lunch from a food court near work I'd never pay less than $15 for a roll or sushi and coke. A hotel buffets breakfast averages about $40 or $50 a head for an adult. And we rarely have a nice meal out forless than $50 a head (inc desert)

Out theme parks here however are a total rip off. Worse than movie prices. $8 for a large coke. $12 for a hotdog (no fries). $22 for a burger and fries meal (plus the $8 coke). So I think Disney food prices are great!

I agree- there is no comparison between a nice resort buffet and a WDW buffet.

Funny. I was going to add an Atlantis comment to the effect of 'Disney has nothing on Atlantis food prices'!! Eat,eat, eat and enjoy but DON'T look at the bill!!!

Will do! Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for this thread. I thought I was the only on who thought that food at Disney is reasonable. I think, if you travel, you know that Disney prices are in line OR below other places. We just got back from London and yes it is an expensive city. The more you travel and experience other places, the more you are "in tune" with the world. DisneyWorld or "OtherWorlds".

Enjoy The Magic!!

We got the same order at Johnny Rockets in Six Flags a few years back & it was about $40! I thought my DH was gonna faint. :lmao:
