Backlot Express: Grilled Vegetable Sandwich and Black Bean Salad

How was the Backlot Express? That sandwich looks really good? Trying to decide where to eat for our CS lunch in DHS.

This sandwich was absolutely the best sandwich we have had so far this trip...the bread was so soft and fresh with black olives baked right in. Also, the veggies were fresh and plentiful (including watercress, red pepper, mushrooms, tomatoes, and zucchini), the cheese melted perfectly, and the sundried tomato pesto subtle and just right. The black bean salad was likewise yummy, with a bit of a tang.

Another good thing about Backlot Express...the kid's menu offered sloppy joes, something a bit different from the typical kid's menu fare. And while we didn't order one (alas, my kid is a teen!), I thought it worth mentioning for those of you who DO have kids who eat from the kid's menu.

I like the backlot express as well. Along with the veggie sandwich, they had a really good vegetarian salad as well:

It was the "Southwest Salad with mixed greens, crisp corn tortilla, black bean relish, grilled sweet plantains and chimichurri dressing" for $7.19

Very nice. Loved the plantains!

This is one of my new favorite threads!!! Why haven't I found this earlier?? Everything looks so delicious and I can't wait to eat my way through Disney!

We, two adults, ordered the kid's sloppy joes and they were really really good! We were quite surprised and very happy. I think I have a picture someplace, I'll try and dig it up.

How was the tofu? I was so tempted to order it because I love tofu, but m wife talked me out of it! :lmao:

Your wife is a wise woman! That is not to say that the meal presentation wasn't very appealing or that the tofu was BAD, but it just wasn't as tasty as it could/should have been. It seemed that the marinade was a last-minute after thought...it did not, in other words, permeate the tofu but rather just sat on top of it. The same thing was true for the rice: the tastes/spices/flavors were not blended into the rice but instead seemed like two different things that just happened to be one on top of the other. I wouldn't, in short, order it again anytime soon...

When I looked at the pics again in your post I also wanted to know what the sausage dish was. It looks GOOD and I'm not a huge sausage fan.

I recognized the Le Cellier but it was the sausage dish I couldn't place. ;)
