Anyone else get a Trojan message when they used the Disney flashdrive in their computer? I immediately got the message, so I took it out and shut down like my McAfee told me.

Guess I won't be using it.

Wow. Ours worked with no problems, but it was not particularly informational.

Most of the virus detectors will automatically view any hard drive that directs you to a Web site as a threat and that is what the Mickey drives do.

Agreed. That's the textbook action of a Trojan... Calling out to the internet to its home server and establishing a connection. It's a pretty poor design by Disney.

I imagine that's why they make it so incredibly obvious that it's from Disney, so people might actually try it out. Random company sends me a drive, NO. Disney, sure.

Can someone give me the site, since my flashdrive was received empty? I'm curious to see what it was intended to tell me.

I don't have the address handy, my Flash Drive is in the car. But it directed to two short online videos, hosted by the Incredibles character Edna Mode, that basically told you everything you probably already know about My Disney Experience and FP+

EDIT: I found the links in my browser history:

The same videos play on the MyDisneyExperience web-site.

I refused to put the flash drive into my computer. I'm too cautious.

Part of the box said: "Plug this flash drive into your computer for a special message about your upcoming visit. You can also access your message at disneyworld.com/incredible."

I haven't checked to see what's on that website.

Thanks! Here it is, here it is, an empty flash drive! I was just wonderin'.

Your computer reports the flash drive as empty but if you click on the drive you will see 2 short cuts.

All that was on my drive were two web links. Those files, in and of themselves, will not hurt the computer. It's possible that the destination could have something that would be dangerous, but on a Disney server, unlikely.

So that said, since someone already posted the same links here, you can format the drive and use it as your own thing now if you want.

I was surprised and disappointed that there was nothing new on the flash drive :rolleyes1 It had exactly the same things that I have on the My Experience Disney website :confused3

I think those flash drives are a waste of money, along with the booklets they mail (DCL does the same type of booklet mailings) and the shipping for the magic bands.

The waste is not tracking guests who know and have used MDE and Fast Pass+. Sending training tools to us is the waste.

90% of Disney Guests have no idea about NextGen, MDE and all of the other changes so they need the help. Waiting to check in at BWV for 40 minutes allowed me to see groups come and go and I really feel for the CM's trying to explain to everyone what a magic band is. Most guests seemed to walk away with a blank look on their face trying to make sense of it all.

What do you base your 90% on. I have friends that just went recently for the very first time and had absolutely no problem understanding the process. I think you are under estimating the intelligence of most Disney guests. Also many have booked with travel agents that are assisting them.

I mean it really is not that complicated, easier to me than getting a new phone, or setting up home wifi.

Today: "Why does Disney send me this stuff? It's just so wasteful?"

Tomorrow: "Remember when Disney used to send planning booklets, flash drives and MagicBands? Now all of that stuff has been eliminated, too. They're just so cheap these days."

:confused3

Some of the duplication does seem a bit wasteful. (Although I suspect DVC owners account for about 95% of all split stays throughout Walt Disney World.)

But it surprises me that people who are normally so attuned to every cost-cutting move made by Disney would so quickly thumb their noses at materials which are obviously intended add a little fun to travel planning. I, myself may be a bit jaded after dozens of trips to WDW, but I don't see anything wrong with Disney spending a few dollars to get people excited about upcoming vacations. Pretty darn expensive vacations, at that.

I doubt these things cost Disney much at all. I'd be curios to know. I feel assured, though, that they aren't paying the mailing rates I am.
