Disney First Timers

Here's something new(at least for me):

Yesterday, my 9 year old DS asked me " How can you spot a first time visiter to Disney World?". Instantly I thought what a great thread that would be to start. So here goes...How can you spot a first timer? Either by a question asked to you or by watching them do something to let everyone know that this was there first time there.

I'll start.

You know that someone is a first timer when...........They try to stop a character at a meal and ask for an autograph or picture and they don't realize that the characters go around to all the tables in order.

when they walk into a park and stop in the middle of everyones walkway to look at the map because they dont know which direction to walk in. That is a peeve of mine...please move to the side no stopping in your tracks so people behind you have to put on the walking breaks!!!

People who proclaim loudly that you must have to pay extra for the FP.

People who complain about how long they have to stand in line for the rides.

(That was me!) ...

ok ... I am a stop in the middle of the walkway kind of person but I am getting better using the 12 step program ... 12 steps to the edge of the walkway and out of the way.

Another way to tell a first timer (not me anymore!)

omg!! i am a first timer really . I havent been there since i was in fourth grade and now im 40.I just got reallly nerv.I can just see myself standing in front of ppl lookin at map not knowing where to go and do.. H ELPPPPP!!!!!

You can spot a first timer when someone says "we're in Epcot now, next we're going to Disney World". Of course, they mean Magic Kingdom.

You can spot a first timer when someone says "we don't want to go to Animal Kingdom, that's just a zoo".

Maryland Mom- Don't worry! I was also a first timer last trip & don't feel that it was obvious. Simply by being on these boards, you'll be light years ahead of many of the first timers and even some people who have been to WDW several times. Of course, I also signed up for TGM and I planned for so long that I always felt that I knew exactly where everything was. Funny thing is, in real life, I am always directionally challenged & getting lost, even in my small town. Put me in the World though, and I was 100% confident of directions!

We hear this first timer comment all the time:
'We like Disney World so much better than EPCOT or MGM."

We also overheard this classic question a rookie asked in Tomorrowland:
"So, what kind of rides do you have here?"

Finally, there are the everpopular character mix-ups:
"Go hug the puppy" (Pluto)
"Hey, there's a chipmonk" (Timone)
"Let's go see Alladin" (Genie)
"Oh, the Easter Bunny: (Brer Rabbit or Rabbit from Winnie the Pooh)

people that complain the guy on jungle cruise is rude.

People who are running, shoving and pushing to get the the boat/monorail after the fireworks as if it were the last boat/train of the night.

People who complain about the cost of the food.

Or even, "How much extra did the dream FP cost you?" You don't know how many of my co-workers asked me that one, even after I told them we had "won" them! Now I start off saying that because of the YOAMD celebration we "won" Dream FPs!

Bingo! (also, that's also not their fault as WDW does a horrible job with those not in the "know" in this area).

You know a first timer when....

• MK is called Disney World
• Somebody asks where to meet Tinkerbell
• Somebody complains that costume characters won't talk to them
• Somebody asks if there is anything inside the big ball (Spaceship Earth)

You also know a first timer when they are trying to convince the rest of their family that Walt and his whole family used to stay in the room in the castle on weekends. (I have heard this MANY times)

I remember my first WDW trip in 2002, I kept calling MK the Magical Kingdom. I got some weird looks but hey, at least I stopped calling it Disney World! My future wife set me straight pretty promptly.

Okay, before I was a first-timer, I thought Epcot WAS the ball. I thought it was a big building with displays inside and that's all there was to Epcot.

I thought the same! My grandparents went in 1986 and were trying to explain it to me as a seven year old. Thinking that WDW was one park (DL was one park, so obviously WDW must be too, right?! ), I didn't understand the whole EPCOT thing.
