Firstly just like to say hi to everyone here as a new member, Im sure i will spend many a happy hour reading through all the forums.

We have just booked up for our first ever visit to disneyworld and will be coming April 2006, I have been reading a lot of things and im sure there is a lot of useful information to be found on here, but i was just wandering if there is anything you guys would consider a must do on a first visit, the kids are so excited the 3 year old is in love with tigger and her brother cant wait to see shamu the whale

Anyway any advice would be much appreciated, Roll on april!!!

Don't forget to go back to the hotel during the day- the kids will need naps. They'll be overwhelmed and tired, and it can't hurt for the grown-ups to nap also! That being said, some good family rides are Pirates of the Caribbean, Small World, and Peter Pan's flight. They're all at Magic Kingdom. The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World has great tips in it.

Have FUN!! ::MickeyMo

Welcome aboard! Perhaps I have misread, but do be aware that Shamu is at Sea World, which is not part of Disney World. It is somewhat close, however, and depending on the length of your visit is a nice one-day "break" from Disney.

April is a great time to visit! Check the calendar and if you're anywhere close to Easter, be prepared for crowds. But even so, the weather will be beautiful! We'll be there at the end of April (always go then or early May) ourselves.

You didn't mention how old your son was but as for a 3 yr old, that is how old my dd was the 1st time we went.
Here are the MUST things w/ a 3 yr old:
Magic Kingdom:
Dumbo ride
Winnie the pooh ride
Minnie's house
main st. Parade
(Stay away from snow white ride, seems good for young ones but very scary for them and boring for mom & dad)
Animal Kingdom:
animal petting area
parade
MGM studios:
bear in the big blue house
Muppet 3D
Fantasmic
Epcot:
Living seas
Sea World:
Clyde & seamore show
Shamu show
Shamu's Happy Harbor (warning she won't want to leave this section)
Pets on stage show

Thanks for the information, we are aware that shamu is at seaworld but thanks for confirming, Our second week coincides with Easter. I know about the fast pass system which will hopefully save some queing time on the rides, when you say it will be busy at easter how busy?? will we still be able to get in to see the shows that we want and how long would you expect to wait to get on the rides ( i appreciate all different but are we talking hours of waiting?)
Thanks again

Burt my only advice stay calm!! The rides that you think will be too scary -no problems! The rides that you think will be fine -sreamin'heebie jeebies!! Our DS was 3 on his first trip -darkness was a problem : Jungle river & PoTC were screamers.... The UG has a quote along the lines of "..remember who you are there for..." it is sometimes hard for the holiday to live up to your expectations, especially when you ask the kids where they want to go next & all they are intrested in is the Hotel pool!!
I think the break from the parks only works if you are staying on-site but generally we've never bothered
