Disney files patent for flight sim. (possible Avatar)

From the description, sounds cool. It's certainly not a "simulator" in the sense that it's simulating the motion -- the ride will really move and can be controlled to a limited extent by the riders. Agreed that it will require a large amount of space, but I can see this encompassing the entire "Avatar" land, possibly zig-zagging in, out, and around the rest of the theme elements to take more advantage of the layout (and theme elements) as well as to provide folks on the ground with the sensation of flying vehicles overhead.

Think of it like TTA on steroids. :lmao:

You can see some additional images from the patent here. These show some other alternative implementations for this idea where you wouldn't need a long track. These would be more like a traditional motion base simulator.

Also note that this patent was filed back in June of 2010 long before the Avatar deal, so even though it might be something that could be used for Avatarland it's unlikely it was designed for that purpose.
