Disney FILES Magazine

This is the last straw in the gradual decline in the VM. It's been moving towards a 'catalog' for Disney movies, tv, and of the ever present marketing arm of DVC to "buy more points". They also seem to REALLY be pushing exchanges which makes me wonder if that isn't a money maker for DVC too.

All of these issues would be okay if this was a FREE publication but (correct me if I am wrong) we are paying for this publication from our dues!

Is it just me, or does it seem like the DVC "magic" has been eroding for DVC members since Jim Lewis took over? The new exchange fee, the new banking rules, OKW extension, and these VM changes, just to name a few things. I'm sure he's very popular with management right now, especially with the OKW cash cow, it's just seems like member input is not important to him. I am not attacking Mr. Lewis personally, I just think he's a dollars and cents business man that is only concerned with the bottom line.

VM used to make me miss my "Home Away from Home". It made me reminisce about our last trip "Home" and got me excited about our next trip "Home". Ahh, the 'good old Days!

You got to my point before I could post it! When reading through the annual budget statement that we recently received I noted the amount spent on "publications" such as the "DisneyFiles." I can't recall the exact amount now, but it was substantial. If someone could ask at the upcoming meeting for the exact cost of this quarterly publication, I'd be curious about its cost to us. :scratchin

Perhaps a solution could be to allow members to "opt out" of the DisneyFiles mag if we so choose. The cost of printing should go down therefore reducing at least a small portion of our dues, right?

I, too, agree with the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" :badpc:
mentality. What we seem to be getting is more and more a magazine devoted to all things Disney, which I'm sure some DVC members enjoy, but what older members appreciate is what we had - a publication dedicated to DVC. Doesn't it make sense that the DVC newsletter's #1 objective should be to inform us about DVC?

Man...got mine today with NO bumper sticker. I'm bummed. I haven't had time to sit and look closely at the mag, but so far I'm not impressed.

I got mine on November 17th it did not have one either.....sounds like we may not be missing much :flower3:

For those who asked, here's a photo of the bumper sticker.

I won't be putting it on the car. I don't put anything on the car. In fact whenever I buy a new car, I don't allow the dealer to put his name on it either, no matter how pretty his 'sticker', 'chrome display', or license plate frame may be. I don't pay tens of thousands of dollars so I can be a rolling advertisement for the dealer. Bumper Stickers, on MY car???....Not!

Ewww...I'm definitely not missing much!

I have three things on my Yukon window. A DVC white sticker with a pretty Life is Good sticker next to it because with DVC my life is good! ;) My other sticker is a white "Got Kerry Blue?" sticker for my two kerry blue pups. There aren't many KB owners out there, so I always like people to come up to me and ask about them.

I'm the same way about dealership badges. Those come off as soon as I get home.

:) I had to chuckle when I read this. I totally agree.:thumbsup2 I never even considered that you could ask a dealer to not put their name on your car though.

Can anyone tell me if my photo made it to the DVC members section? Its a sunset pic looking at the Yacht Club lighthouse? Thanks!

Here's the pic:

That is a beautiful picture but it reminded me of something I just read in Disney FILES magazine. "Tip: Photos that help tell a story have the best change of getting into the magazine. So look for your best candid shots that focus more on people than places..."

I didn't even get the magazine :(
Sheesh- sounds like I am not missing much- What a shame- because the last issue of VM was really good!

And that, my friends, came from the "creative" folks at Disney, PAID FOR with your dues! :confused3

I mean, c'mon, they couldn't even get the DVC logo on there? Just another example of "I've come to expect better."

<off my rant now>

so that brings up a great question I owuld like someone at DVC to give us answers to

"how is it that our dues pay for a publication that is less than 50% DVC related"

Again, I'll ask-

Is there anyone planning on going to the December membership meetings who can present these questions personally to those in charge? :confused3

We got our two copies today. I saw the bumper sticker and thought, what a cheap, generic bumper sticker. No three mountains, no two mountains, no mountains. Not even DVC font.

By the way, what the heck are Disney FILES that I now have access to anyway????:confused3

I guess Membership ain't so magical anymore. :sad2:

But if they touch my kingsized beds, heads are gonna roll!!

:sad1: :sad2: So true!

I won't be there to go to the meeting, to bad someone who is going to be there can't present the powers with all the threads that voice our dismay over some of the decisions that have been made in recent years.

Disney Files is a blatant disney advertising magazine, much more obvious than the old Vacation Magic. I count this as the latest lessening of the DVC magic.

I would agree, much of the same, more sales and less membership. :sad2:

For someone like me who is eager for all the information I can get about GCV, and who plans to buy an add on ASAP, the new Magazine is just giving members news they really want.

I suppose for those who are not interested in any more add ons, it seems like our money is being used to sell new memberships and add ons.

Like so many things, it depends how you look at it. :confused3

As I said earlier, I enjoyed the magazine. My problem is that I read the title as Disney Flies! Someone sent me an e-mail saying how the brain can read even very misspelled words as long as the first and last letters are correct. Well, my brain thinks that Flies works better than Files! OK, I pray that no one tells me that this is the first sign of senility

Bobbi:goodvibes

HA HA, I glanced at it and thought flies too :)

I also didn't know that they were changing the magazine either. I haven't read it yet, so I will reserve judgement.

But overall in general there have been LOTS of changes within the Disney company on things such as tickets, dining, room prices, room discounts and such over the last 2 years it isn't surprising that DVC isn't immune to it all as well.

I thought it was "Flies" too! I actually read aloud to DH. "What's this? Disney Flies magazine." He said, "WHAT?!" and I looked twice and realized it was supposed to be FILES :lmao:
