Help!
I am going on a cruise in just a few days and we are not cleared for the first dining. I know I can check on the ship but want to make sure we’re prepared to not get off the waitlist. My mom has GERD and can’t eat at 8:15.
Does Cabanas serve dinner every night? When I look on the site it just shows breakfast and dinner.

No, Cabanas does not serve dinner. Pre-pandemic it did, but that has not returned.

They serve breakfast and lunch. You can get food from the quick service on the pool deck or room service if she needs an earlier meal and they can't accommodate at MDR.

No, Cabanas is not open for supper. You can get food through room service (at no charge) or you can get food on the pool deck.

I just called back and got another rep because the first one said they’re open for dinner and the second person I just spoke to confirmed they’re not
I’m actually a little worried- I’d be ok with the second dining but my mom would get sick….i also think she’s not going to be feeling so great if we are only eating pizza and bbq every night, what is on the dinner room service menu if anyone knows? I am actually concerned she’s going to be unwell because of this

There are also salads, fruit, and sandwiches at quick service/pool deck on the far right side (I do that for lunch some days). I'd definitely check as soon as you board to see if they can switch you to early. If they can't, I'd suggest doing the main dining room (Royal Court? by the atrium) for lunches on sea days so you can have a relaxed multi course sit down meal. (Lunch menu changes daily)

Thanks all for the suggestions, very much appreciated
I am certainly not trying to be difficult but at this point I’m in a mild panic as I am feeling this may ruin our time. Do they really not care about medical accommodations anymore or is this just not serious enough for them to consider?

Of course they care about medical accommodations. They will do anything they can to assist, but they can’t create tables in the dining rooms that do not exist.

First seating is always in much higher demand on Disney cruises, as soo many people travel with young children. If you absolutely have to have first seating I would recommend booking your cruise very early before it fills up in the future.

All that said as other have mentioned there are additional options. The poolside ding options are not just burgers and pizza and bbq. Lots of choices. There is also room service which again has lots of choices.

And as mentioned when you board the ship go inquire about having your dining changed. They will accommodate you if at all possible.

Panicking is not going to help.

100% wouldn’t book a cruise again unless we did it right away so learned my lesson the hard way
When you say poolside dining do you mean the Flos cafe? We’ve been on the Wish and if Flos is comparable to Festival of foods I wouldn’t consider that something I’d rely on for dinner for four nights in a row. Of course everyone is different but we typically cook meals at home and don’t eat a lot of pizza, burgers, sandwiches as a dinner. When you look on the DCL site it even categorizes that area as snacks :)

Yes. There is Flo’s. There is Room Service. There are also the adult up charge restaurants Palo & Remy. Not sure if there is availability there or if you are open to dining there one or two nights.

I liked it when Cabanas was an option for diner as well and do wish that would return, but it doesn’t seem likely at this point unfortunately.

If you check the 'dining changes' location as soon as you board, if nothing else they may be able to put you at a variety of early dining tables during your cruise from the people who are dining at Palo/Remy those nights. Fantasy doesn't have the poolside BBQ station but does have the salads/fruit/wraps/paninis section. (And pizza, burgers/brats/chicken tenders/fries).

Some stuff we've gotten from Flo's:IMG_20220619_112420193.jpgIMG_20230822_100535055_HDR.jpgIMG_20230820_215842703.jpg

The fantasy only has so many dining tables available. The people who book early fill up those tables first for early dining. The later you book the cruise, the more likely you are to end up with second dining.

But, go to enchanted garden as soon as you board the fantasy. They open at noon. Go to the table on the right hand side and talk to a MDR rep about changing. Probably your best option at this point. They are very accommodating in person and will try to help everyone.

concierge is the only room type you can order main dining room food to your room. Not sure if you can but you could always try walk up at 6PM and see if they have a table. I have seen on cruises like Alaska they will allow you to dine at another time if there is room. Only heard this happening on Alsaka cruises. Another option is maybe try going to the front and asking for a meal to go as I have seen people who are sick bring food to there room, however this was precovid.

Otherwise try and switch on day 1, use Flo's or Room Service. If you want to pay more you could do Palo or Remy.

Did you mention the medical issue when requesting to be placed on the waitlist? Generally, if DCL is aware it's a medical issue they very accommodating.

One tip - being willing to share a table can increase your chances of upgrading once you are onboard. It seemed like everyone in front of us stuck with second dinner once they were told that the only tables left were likely shared tables.

The fantasy only has so many dining tables available. The people who book early fill up those tables first for early dining. The later you book the cruise, the more likely you are to end up with second dining.

Honestly - not in my experience. We have a pretty obvious and serious medical need on one cruise, I even sent a note from a physician, and I was told they tried, but there was nothing they could do since all the tables were taken. On the one hand, it was frustrating, since that doesn't make complete since because once you board, it's obvious some percentage of availability is held back.

On the other hand, I am sure they get requests for so many people stating a medical need it's really not practical to move everyone who needs it. For example, 20% of adults have GERD, which would be impossible to accommodate if 20% of all late diners wanted to move to early dining. That's why they tell us when we book what dining time we will have. If we can't live with that, we are agreeing to bear the risk. So I accepted it was my choice to book knowing it was only late dining left, and was grateful to be upgraded once on board. I think your odds are rather high of getting upgraded after boarding, so long as you agree to share a table.

If that fails, you will have to eat at the pool if your mom needs to eat early.

Sorry you were not accommodated after asking at embarkation. We cruise a lot, so the head server who is usually at enchanted garden for MDR changes always recognizes us. We always ask for a private table and our favorite server. They always try their best to work their magic.
