Hi there,

I have stateroom #10162 on Deck 10 (5E) on the Disney Fantasy for my upcoming cruise end of Oct.
I've done a lot of Disney cruises, but I've never had an aft cabin before, and I've been reading mixed reviews.
My concerns are noise from above and soot?

Can anyone please chime in that has had this cabin or others on Deck 10?

I'm considering changing my stateroom, but thought I would ask here first!

Thanks a bunch! :)

We were in 10612 (on the starboard side, aft area). We liked it. Only issues some people have with the deck 10 verandahs on a regular basis is the overhang from the pool deck is pretty large. I didn't mind it as I'm a "stay in the shade" person.

I can't address the possible soot issue, but the noise may or may not be a problem there. 10162 will be under the open seating area for Cabanas. And at night there's no meals being served there (bedtime). Might be an issue in the morning for breakfast, though.

The biggest problem we had with a room in the aft of the Fantasy was the really bad vibration that she has. Or "had", if it's been fixed. You couldn't sit in bed (head against the headboard) to watch TV in the room because it was pretty bad.

Thank you PrincessShmoo:)

I've stayed aft before on other ships, and yes, I agree, their was quite a vibration on all of them.
I said I would never book aft again cause of the vibration and scaring the crap out of me and my kids early in the morning, but I've always wanted to try a Cat 5E all the way aft on the Dream or Fantasy.
I went ahead and booked one for our Fantasy cruise, and now I'm concerned about all the soot and possible noise above from Cabanas.
We use our Verandah a lot, and the thought of having to clean up soot all the time is making this cabin choice less then favourable.

I've never stayed aft but have felt that vibration on the Fantasy everyone talks about. I would think that would be the bigger concern over soot and noise.

Yes, the noise is quite irritating and loud when pulling into Port etc, but my curiosity has gotten the best of me and I took the plunge and booked the stateroom.
I've heard the noise so I know what to expect now, but it's the 'unexpected' that is getting to me now...

We were on Deck 7 aft, last room before the rear rooms on the Fantasy this past April, we had no issues with vibrations other than normal propulsion vibrations leaving and entering ports. However, my in-laws were directly below us and had terrible vibrations on deck 6.

We will be in 10160 in a couple of weeks. We have sailed several times before but never in an aft cabin. I'd be happy to report back on what we thought. We always sleep with a tv on for "white noise" even at home, so we plan to do that on the ship as well. I am hoping that the noise from setting up the chairs will not bother us. Not sure about the vibrations - guess we'll find out soon enough! If nothing else we will just get up and enjoy some early mornings. Then come back and nap on the giant verandah. That doesn't sound like an awful day.

we were in 10162 on the Dream a few weeks ago. Loved it. Verandah was huge with chairs, lounge chairs and tables, partly shaded. I did not notice any soot. yes, we did have some noise from above in the mornings, not much. Would book it again.

We've been in 10166 (Fantasy) and 9176 (Dream) and, for us, the humongous verandah far outweighs the soot and vibration.

To be honest, we have felt the same vibration in other rooms (but the Fantasy is/was somewhat worse than the Dream).

For the soot, it really depends on the wind; some days you'll get some and other days not. The room steward will get it cleaned off if it is a problem.

As far as noise from Cabanas, the only time we noticed anything was early in the morning when the crew was cleaning/setting chairs up for breakfast. It sounded like ... well ... like deck chairs being dragged across a ship's deck! Not the end of the world for me, but I suppose if you are a light sleeper and you want to sleep in, it could bother you.

I guess being on Deck 10 maybe a bit better then? I'm glad to hear you had no issues being so far aft. It's reassuring.

Ive been on the Fantasy once before, but I was midship higher up (I forget what Deck) and had no issues with any vibrations.

That would be awesome, thank you!!!

Enjoy your cruise, and enjoy your large Verandah!!

Cheers:)

This is great to hear!!

I've read that the Dream doesn't have the soot issues like the Fantasy because of the distance the Dream does vs the Fantasy. I don't like the thought of sitting down in black soot because I forget or don't notice it right away...

Great to know you would book it again! Thanks for your help!!

When you say 'some' soot, was it all over the Verandah/chairs or just in a specific area. If I left my Verandah door open for a few hours would it make its way into the room?

I am a very light sleeper, but my kids are not so I'm pretty sure they would sleep through it (I hope lol) I don't mind being up early, as long as it's not 5am early haha!

When you say vibration, are you referring to a constant vibration or just the vibration/noise when the ship is pulling into Port, turning etc??

Vibration - as in much like those cheap motel vibrating beds. During transit, not during docking. There were two times in Animator's Palate that the water glasses danced off the table due to the vibration. Generally it's when the Fantasy is making 20+ knots during her long hauls from PC to her first port, and again during the long hauls between the islands. More noticeable on the Eastern itinerary than the Western.

SOOT: For us, the soot only collected in areas that were not covered by the deck above; so, if you leave chairs out by the railing, they may get sooty. You'd have to have a heck of a tail wind to get anything into your stateroom (I'd think). If the deck of your verandah is wet, the water may spread the soot around so you might feel some soot if you walk out barefoot. I'll see if I have a picture of what it looks like.

CABANAS NOISE: For the chair dragging ... they are getting Cabanas ready to open at 7:00 so they do move chairs around and wash the deck down prior to that. It didn't particularly bother me and I am not a heavy sleeper.

VIBRATION: There was one night when we were cruising faster we felt some vibration and I think that's where we noticed that it was different than the Dream. It was constant, but I wouldn't say it was bothersome, just different. I would think that you would feel that vibration anywhere on the back third (at least) of the ship. We felt the usual, more significant, vibration while pulling into port.

We have stayed in 10162 twice. Love the room and the verandah. No problem with soot. We like to stay aft, notice the vibrations but not enough to chose another room. Some noise early in morning from Cabanas, chairs moving. Not before 6:30A or 7A. Enjoy the extended verandah.

I couldn't find any photos showing actual soot, but on these first two, you can see how far the roof goes out. You can also see by the wet footprints that my son stomped in one of the puddles so his feet got a little dirty ... oh well.

From the other direction, you can see that the furniture pretty much stays under the roof unless you pull it all the way forward.

And this is why you get the aft verandah; so you can get an unobstructed photo of Tortola on a rainy morning in your PJs:

We had an aft verandah on Fantasy, 7188, but it wasn't the very back of the ship. It was right next door to the first cabin that is the back of the ship. No soot for us. We did experience vibrations, but we all loved it. It was very soothing and helped us sleep. We don't have motion issues though. I have also read about the soot on the verandahs at the very back of the ship and have kind of avoided them because of that. I think you will enjoy your trip anyway. Good luck.
