Disney Family of the Day

How is the Disney Family of the Day picked on your cruise? I have seen some videos on You Tube where the family of the day was announced. What perks do they receive?

A CM is chosen to choose them, they get on first and have a fuss made of them with gifts and photos.

We got on just after them on our cruise.

You will see them announced at the end of this video from my trip report.

I saw a CM choose a family while waiting to board in Vancouver a couple of weeks ago. They were a larger family (multi generational) with matching tshirts. Not sure if that helped or not but it seemed to be pretty random!

We were chosen as Family of the Day back in 2011 in Barcelona. We all (seven of us) had on Mickey shirts and my daughter had a Disney Girl Doll dressed as Minnie and the kids had their Mickey Ears on. I was told they picked us because we looked like we were "into it" and "having a good time". I was in line signing the kids up for the club/lab when we were approached.

We were announced and then were the first on the boat. We received a certificate in our stateroom for a magical moment and our group picture they took on our way in. It was an 11-night cruise and we never heard anything else about it. We still felt special

We were picked for a Christmas cruise on the magic...we all wore Dosney Christmas hats...DD had a Mickey hat with ears that flashed, DS had a goofy hat, I had. Minnie bow with Ho,my on and DH had a Santa hat with stitch ears...we were picked....because we had the Disney Cjristmas spirit apparently!....we got first photo with Mickey in front of the ship model, announced onto the ship first and as another poster stated a certificate and photo

We were picked for moms 60th bday cruise. Someone in the group went and talked to the supervisor in port. Told her story of how we all met (on a Disney cruise years ago at dinner) and that we now travel together all the time and this trip was my moms 60th. Supervisor said she couldn't guarantee anything. Shortly afterwards she went up to mom and told her she'd been selected.

That family is the only one to get a port photo with Mickey and Minnie together. Then announced and early boarding. Plus a special table to wait at prior to boarding. We got a certificate from guest services onboard basically saying let them know what they could do for us. I don't remember making any special requests tho to see what we might get.
