One of my husband's coworkers sister works for disney and she said she gets awesome prices on cruises, which I heard is true,,,,but just she said she can create a group of rooms as a cast member and get the prices for all rooms to be her cost.
Is that a benefit now? Or is this cast member confused?
thanks

Cast member discounts are not supposed to be discussed on an open forum. There is a CM board here on the Dis that the CM can contact the admins and get rights to visit that board. All CM things are discussed there.

But I will say I believe she is mistaken.

From my understanding, a CM can book up to 3 cabins (maybe 4) with their discount, as long as they are onboard the same ship. Otherwise they can book for their friends with the Family and Friends discount (still a great deal, but not quite as good as the straight CM rate). Pretty sure she has to be a CM for at least 6 months before she can use the DCL discounts. I remember thinking that was weird because you can take advantage of all other discounts the moment you get your cast ID.

I was a CM for a little while earlier this year, that's why I know these things.

Also, they tend to be even more last minute (or at least AS last minute) as *GT rates. They ARE *GT cabins in that you don't know where you're going to be when you book. And CM-rate cabins are even more likely to be those assigned at port rather than in advance.

Without getting into specifics, because I know that's not allowed, does anyone know when cast cruise discounts get released? I have a relative that is going to try to get me a friends/family discount, but I'm trying to figure out at what point she should expect to see it listed on the HUB. I just don't want to wait too long and lose the ability to book a regular rate, too.

Sorry if that was convoluted.

Generally they will not show up until AT LEAST the *GT rates come out. And usually it's a little after those are out for a bit.

When I was an operations manager years ago, salaried CM's got 35% off all F&B and merchandise at any owned facility, (ESPNZone, ABC store, etc). Hourly CM's got 20% off. Lodging and cruises was a completely different ball of wax. We weren't even allowed to book anything until within about 2-3 weeks of arrival date/sailing and then the discount was based on occupancy, so it always varied. I sure do miss that discount!

The posting of the space available rates can vary. They can be 3 months out or just a few weeks. Like the pp said, you do not know where on the ship you will be located until either a few weeks ahead of time or at port. It's usually right above the nightclubs! Disney is very good to its employees. Use the cast only forum for more specifics!

I honestly don't know how full time CMs are able to get time off for a cruise, especially at such short notice. When I worked as a CM, they were ridiculously strict when it came to asking for time off. It had to be requested way in advance and sometimes wasn't approved until the day before. Makes it tough to plan things - one of the many reasons I decided I liked being a guest waaay more than being a CM. :rotfl:
