I received notice today that I can book the disney resorts with my points from a non-disney timeshare.

I guess this is going to make it even harder to get a res.

DVC is now (as of the beginning of the year) exchanging with RCI instead of II
Exchange inventory (into DVC) only exists because some DVC owners want to trade into RCI

It shouldn't make any difference at all to you.

RCI can't offer DVC reservations unless DVC deposits time into RCI. DVC only makes deposits if a DVC member wants to trade out or if the developer wants to send some of its points there for RCI members (they are sales prospects). DVC members have no entitlement to developer owned points at all.

So you should have the same opportunity to get a reservation as you always have. You're just competing with fellow DVC members.

What's in the RCI inventory is exchanges. If a DVC member trades out for an RCI resort, then a comparable DVC villa goes to RCI to pay for that trade. That's what makes it possible for DVC members to use points for the RCI properties.

This won't impact your ability to book with your points at all.

I really would like to know who verifies that DVC is only exchanging member exchanges and not other inventory. It sure seems like there is a lot of DVC availability. :confused3

My guess is that a lot of people with developer points from their AKV, BLT and now GCV purchases deposited into RCI....

Boy, there is a ton of availability on the RCI web site. They are charging a pretty penny for it too. I saw 4 DVC properties. 118 villas at BWV's alone. These are for rent, not for trade.

That's cash/CRO inventory, not Member inventory. If you look carefully, you'll see that anyone renting those units signs up for ME using WDTC's website for third-party bookings, but exchange guests do so by calling Member Services. The web site only accepts reservation #'s in CRO's format. Member Services only deals with DVC-style bookings.

How do you check availability?

I have worked with Interval International and trading into DVC units is nearly impossible. I just bought DVC and also own RCI - they are by the way not interchangable - and availability unless you pay is again nearly impossible. I wouldn't worry about it - looks like DVC members will continue to have preference - thankfully because I would have kicked myself for buying! pirate:

The levels of "nearly impossible" vary according to what you offered in trade, what season you wished to travel and what size unit you were seeking. I had no difficulty trading into [BWV 1BR units in January] through II using one of our other timeshares and hope to continue trading in through RCI.

RCI is notorious (and has been sued and lost a class action suit) for skimming the best deposits off the top from exchanges and selling them to the general public via various sister sites. So, don't expect your DVC deposit to pull any fabulous resorts. If people weren't happy with II, just wait until you have RCI! I use both and II is so much better and has such a better offering of higher class resorts. We are glad to own only a small OKW contract with all of the DVC changes.

Thanks, I'm not worried.
