One of my friends is going to propose on our upcoming trip to DLRP and wants to do it after the fireworks. He's planning on taking her up to the castle for a 'photo' but then proposing instead. This way most of the crowds will be gone.
They then have a reservation at California grill.

Does this sound like a good idea? Anyone have any tips to make it extra magical?

I think the castle is roped off for Dreams and it stays like that after so not sure they will be able to get close to the Castle

It doesn't have to be close, just want it to be in the background and not many people between them and the castle.

I think this sounds lovely. Dreams is so moving it will definitely set the mood and make her emotional.

The only think that may prevent you is Cast Members, who usher people out of the park when Dreams! is finished. You could try chatting to them before Dreams! starts, see if they will be accommodating.

My husband proposed to me in exactly this situation and it was perfect. It was just us in front of the castle - and the street sweepers (one of whom gave us the thumbs up!). No staff moved us on. It will be absolutely magical - best of luck to your friend and his future wife!

Brilliant. That's just what we were hoping. It won't be long after dreams ends, just a couple of minutes so should be ok.

Not to put a dampner on things but a couple of minutes after Dreams in my previous experiences has been being stuck in a massive crowd of people all trying to get out of the park! I don't see how you will get out of the crowd or stay in the same spot/move in the other direction as the whole of Main Street is solid with people? Unless you find somewhere completely out the way and quiet :confused3

Not that every proposal isn't magical, but I think your friend could make it even more romantic by finding that special moment in daytime when the castle is fully accessible. People on these boards have been proposed to on the castle balcony or else he could follow the little path that goes round to the wishing well, I don't think that many people can go down there as every time we've been there we've been the only ones.

One of those persons mentioned, was me! I was taken inside the our beautiful Castle and we went to look upstairs, then my then boyfriend took me outside on the balcony and we watched the sun set over Fantasyland (he was actually making me wait until the other people around us had cleared). Then he dropped to his knee after telling me I was as beautiful as the sunset and asked me to marry him!
We skipped down Mainstreet and had a BBWWS reservation and they upgraded us as their way of saying congratulations. Yes I bounced in shouting I was engaged.....

And I echo what people are saying about it beibg crowded after Dreams, the whole park is trying to get down that street! BUT, one year we were determined to be last out of the park and had the hub and Mainstreet almost to ourselves. It can be done, but it will becabout an hour after park closing and I think she might get suspicious why you are not leaving??
The Castle is definitely roped off though, and Fantasyland and Adventureland is closed too -you will be ushered out and find areas roped off about an hour before Dreams.
