We did the fish extenders on a three night in June last year. My kids loved coming back to the room and getting the "mickey mail" that was left at our room. It was just an added bonus to the cruise.
For those that don't know...
A fish extender is a hanging "pocket" that attaches to the fish clip that is outside of the rooms. These are used for the crew to put reminders or other items on. Usually each "pocket" has each person's name on it (mine didn't have names but had pictures of characters). Then each family puts a gift or two in the pockets during the trip for each family/member. Each family makes and brings their own extender. Just search for fish extender and you lots of great ones!
We got small toys, candy, pirate gear, dish towels. magnets, note cards, coasters, and lots of other things. Some of the items we used and some we didn't but it was more the excitement of getting back to the room and going through our "mail". Some of the items were handmade, some were store bought, and some were a combination. I don't think that it really mattered as it was the thought that counted!
Also, our group cut off the sign up about 3 months in advance so that we could go ahead and know for sure how many gifts that we needed to made and tag.
A few things to think about are: weight if you are flying, how much you want to spend, do you want to spend time delivering gifts (we enjoyed getting to go around the ship), and will you be happy with about anything that you give since it is more of the thought than the actual gift (you can't please everyone).
I would love to do this again and will help someone set it up if anyone else is willing!!!
Can't wait for June!!
It is my two children (7,8) and my mother that will be with me.
