Disney Dream - June 12, 2011

Love the pictures from all of the big events everyone has been celebrating lately – thanks Tammy for sharing Rachel's graduation and Mike for sharing your daughter's first communion.

Here is one from our big moment in May. We had four generations together for Mother’s Day.

This picture includes my parents (cruising with us this summer), my mom’s mom, and then the five of us.

And here is one of just the Moms. This one is a little blurry (one of the boys took the picture), but I love it because Grandma is actually laughing in the picture.

Grandma (or “Great Nee” to the boys) will be turning 95 just a few days before our cruise. She was honored at church that morning as the mother with the most children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren - a total of 34!

GOOOOOD MORNING FELLOW CRUISERS!!!!

So many celebrations this month!! I love seeing all the photos! I just hope I can put all the faces with the names once we meet!!

Connor turned 14 yesterday! We celebrated with steaks on the grill with shrimp! Then Steve stopped and got an apple fritter pie from ColdStone Creamery. It's REALLY good!! It's an ice cream pie, but with apple and cinnamon flavors. Might have to get that one again someday!

We did some shopping Saturday night.....got me a few new shirts and new tennis shoes...and SO glad I did! I suffer with Plantar Faciatis (sp) mostly in my right foot. The Dr wanted to operate...but that would have left me not being able to drive for 6 weeks! :scared1: Ah, no can do. So I suffered through and it got better. Well, here in the last few weeks, my left foot started up. :sad2: We are leaving for the parks in 19 days...I can NOT be in pain for this!! I wore my new sneaks all day yesterday and I was able to get right out of bed this morning!! Nearly pain free!!!! :woohoo: Going to keep wearing them and "breaking them in" so the parks can be more enjoyable!!

the boys have the state standardized testing all this week....it's a bit stressful as the teachers put so much pressure on the kids to do well. Get enough sleep, eat a good breakfast...blah, blah, blah. The way I see it...if they haven't learned it, it's too late now! either they know it, or they don't! It's one thing to study for a test over the information given that week...and another to try and study for a test over the information given all year. The kids get stressed about it but it has no affect on their final grade for the year and colleges don't look at these scores, just the state administration. Even all the sporting events for the week have been postponed until next week. Track had state finals this past Saturday but soft/baseball will have to wait a week to have state playoffs. Anyway, that means a fairly easy week for us......no homework....although, i am pretty sure Connor will still lift....I am not sure if Colton will have after school band...probably.

That's about it from us....we had great weather this weekend....now it's cold and rainy. We'll be lucky to get out of the 50s this week. SO looking forward to FL weather!!! It will be a shock to our systems though!!!

Tricia,

Sounds like Cameron and Justin may be a great match. We are planning to attend our DIS meet at 3 pm on the first day (at Currents, Deck 13 forward). We are also hoping to make it to a pre-cruise meet at the Country Inn & Suites pool at 8 pm the night before the cruise. Any chance you are staying there?

Holly

Holly,
Meeting the first day at Currents sounds great! I have an older son who has been chatting on the teen thread and they are talking about meeting up with the parents and moving along from there. We fly out of Baltimore early Sunday morning, so unfortunately it sounds like we are missing the pre-cruise party! Cameron is quite excited to hear that another boy his age, on the cruise, has similar interests . Can't wait, it seemed like the longest wait since the cruise was booked in April 2010 and now I feel like there is such a time crunch to get things done! I look forward to meeting you and Justin! See you at 3pm at Currents! Oh...do you have any activities planned on Castaway Cay for the boys?
Tricia

Hi dis friends! Somehow I haven't made it to the list on p 1, but DH and ds x 3 are also on this sailing!!! We a in 6668 and are also traveling with my parents (who are taking my nephew, 15) and my SIL, BIL, and nephew (11). This wil be the first Disney cruise for all 11 of us.

Like many of you, we just got our cruise docs, but I have a couple questions and I'm sure someone here can help. :)

We are staying at Coronado Springs for 3 nights before the cruise and have transfers from the hotel to port the morning of he 12th. Do we put the cruise luggage tags on that morning? Cruise docs say to put the on before fly down, but that can't be right. We haven't gotten the luggage tags for Magical Express yet for our arrival day, which makes me nervous (and can't remember now when those usually arrive). Help???

See you soon!

Welcome!
I'm Rose traveling with my BF Bob and 20yr old son Sean.
We're on the 6th floor too:goodvibes

Goodness, I have so much to catch up on. Hopefully I will get a chance this evening to scroll back through all the pages of conversations I have missed and see what each of you has been up to.

We are down to the very end of the school year:teacher:: only 8 more full school days for the kids, then two half-days with all the awards ceremonies, parties, cleaning out desks and lockers, etc. I still have to work two more days after the kids are out since I lead teacher inservice programs – but then we can ALL start our summer!

We seem to be one of the few school districts in Texas that still follows a junior high model (7th – 9th grade) rather than middle school (6th – 8th), so this has been a very big year for my 6th grader as he prepares for his elementary school “graduation.” He was selected by the faculty as the Student of the Year and will also be receiving a number of academic and service awards at the sixth grade ceremony. Justin has mild Asperger’s (a disorder on the autism spectrum), so I think leaving elementary on a high note will help him adjust more easily to junior high. Honestly, he tends to thrive in the school setting since it is so highly structured – he just has some awkward moments in the social realm, particularly in meeting new kids.

I am hoping he can connect with another boy in the tween age range from our DIS group at our meet on the first day. (Anyone into Harry Potter:wizard:, Pokemon, or Star Wars :darth:would be a perfect match for him!) I’m not sure how he will feel venturing off to the Edge on his own, but I hope he will give it a try. He loved the Oceaneer Lab on our last cruise, but he was in there with his brothers. This year Justin is 11 and the twins are 9. If the Edge turns out to not be a good match for him, then I may check into moving him to the Lab with his brothers.

Okay … I am off to try to catch up on old posts:surfweb:, so you may be seeing more comments from me as I work my way through them all.
Holly

Happy graduation to your son and also congratulations for being student of the year!:thumbsup2:cool1::woohoo:

Rob enjoys all the same and I think they could get along real well. He just turned 12. Since we are staying at CI&S, they will have a chance to meet before getting on the ship.

This is exactly what I love about these boards, the great friendships that can be made even before we get onboard. We get to countdown and get excited about our trip together. Then when we meet onboard, it's like meeting up with old friends and friendships are solidified. Some maybe for life.

We can find other kids for our children to play or hang out with, so it becomes even more fun for them.

I've seen other cruiselines message boards and none come close to The Dis!:thumbsup2:grouphug:

Hopefully I will have more pictures soon. Daniel took some pictures that he will give me on a CD. Once I get these, I may post more.

It's been a great two days!!

Nice photos! She looks so great and very happy.
You are a good photographer Tammy:thumbsup2

Rose -- Love the "stealth mode." I may have to borrow that.

Personally, I think I am in more of an ADD planning kind of mode. I get started on one thing, which then reminds of another. Then I rush off to take care of that before I finish doing the thing I was trying to accomplish in the first place.

Like today ... I meant to have the boys try on swim suits to see who needed new ones. That made me think of flip flops and water shoes. When I went to get the pool bag where I keep the water shoes stashed, I stopped to add "beach bag" to my packing list. But when I looked at my packing list I realized that I needed to type up a list for my mom & dad. I never did get back to having the boys try on swimsuits.

Holly, yes I'm like that too!
Actually my son and I are both ADD. Drives my BF crazy when the two of us are together.
Poor Bob. Sean and I just laugh at each other because we understand each other.:rotfl:

Ok I think I have caught up on all I missed! I have updayed both FE lists and will email them out tonight. I have also PM'd Mamajean who wanted to do the FE. If I hear back I would like to try to make a separate FE list to include them. If anyone else would like to join this list, let me know (that includes those of you who are already on the original lists, but would like to do a few more cabins!)
Congrats to Rachel and to all the others who are graduating! How exciting!
We have 10 more school days here and then I have 2 post planning work days. I still have 5 more IEP meetings and then we do a preschool graduation, so the next 2 weeks will be busy, busy , busy!
I am now a secondary caregiver for my mom as she doesn't bath herself due to her injured hand (she smashed a mirror and has stitches and an open wound) She also fights my dad when he tries to help her bath, so I gave her a shower yesterday and she did not fight me. Dad wants me to come once a week, but I will go 2 times a week to give her a shower. I just need to figure out a back up plan for the 2 weeks we will be gone. Dad doesn't want someone coming in (a nurse) to help, but I am going to try to talk to him about this for at least for the 2 weeks I am gone so that I won't feel guilty being on the cruise. Then I can work on him when we get back for more permanent help.
I bought a Kindle and need to load some books. I really look forward to relaxing on deck and at CC and doing some reading! We have our docs so now just to pack and finish FE gifts.
Can it please be June?!!!!:beach::beach:
Beth

You really do need and deserve a cruise!

Congrats abitagirl916 and your daughter.

Its been another crazy week at work and this weekend all it did was rain again. I don't think I going to see the sun until the Cruise. We are just trying to figure out what we are packing and what we still need to buy. Panic packing mode has not set in yet but it will shortly. How some of you plan for a cruise and go to WDW for several days before or after I take my hat off to you.

Have a great week eveyone.

Below are some pictures from DD first communion last weekend.

Your grandmother looks like she is doing fantastic for her age!

I got the FE's ordered tonight. I am not crafty so I bought something I hope will be useful. I also did just one "item" per stateroom. I hope that will be OK with everyone. Anyway it is a relief to have them ordered. Another thing I can cross off my list. :-)

I couldn't agree with you more! :sail: I can not wait to meet everyone and to see the kids create relationships with other kids from all over! I am super stoked :cool1:, all I can think about and talk about is Disney and the trip. I will just be super sad when it's over, but I will have to start planning the next trip when we get back! Every trip to Disney on our last day our 12 year old Cameron gets a bit upset and tears up, it's the only time he gets upset the last day of vacation.

Tricia

It was a very productive weekend. I got everything on my list that I needed to shop for. Now it is all in a box. Started on the FE and the FE gifts. The kids are trying to decide on what magnets and tshirts they want to make.

Busy weekend coming up for us. Sydney has her dance recital and then it is Ethan's 8th birthday. My parents will come to visit and help celebrate.

Hi Michele,
Happy belated birthday to Connor:bday::yay:

Love Cold Stone Creamery! It's just that you have to skip another meal to make up for those calories:eek:

I've had that plantar fasciitis before too, UGG! Poor you!
Mine went away after a bit less than a year and has never come back.
I read something on the internet about exercises involving rolling a tennis ball back and forth underneath that foot to help the muscle get better.
I did that alot. I'm guessing it worked. Something did eventually.
I hope it's better before our trip.

Good luck to the boys in their final days of school:goodvibes
