Disney Dream August 7, 2011

Getting super excited! Heading home to Orlando today from a two week vacation in PA, NY, and OH! I need to unpack only to repack. My cruising roomies (aka my bestie, her husband, and my Goddaughter) fly in Saturday. We need to finish our FE and go shopping to stock up on booze! Hoping to spend the next few days working on my tan at the water park! See you all soon!

Just thinking positively here! Looks like her track is heading more east - great news! And the weather is always nice after a storm rolls through, right? As long as we can get on the ship, everything will be alright! We've joined the group too late to be a part of all the festivities, but I am bringing along my DH, DS (11), and DD (10) who are very excited to meet new friends at the kids clubs!! Hope you all have safe travels!!:woohoo:pirate::cheer2:

Well it is much too late for us to be any significant part of the Disboards group this trip, but then again, we just booked today. We are:

Chuck DH
Lisa DW
Mason DS 11

We are experienced Disney cruisers, but due to a last minute business change of schedule, Lisa probably will have to miss our scheduled cruise the following week, August 16....so we traded in our Thanksgiving cruise for this one, which will break our longstanding Turkey Day Gang tradition...probably, lol.

So all 3 of us will be there this Sunday, and then 2 of us (too late to cancel and trip insurance does not cover business issues) will go again the following week where we are part of a larger group...basically the Turkey Day Gang in August on the Dream.

If there is any info about a Dis-Meet or the like, could someone please post.

Chuck

Welcome to both of you!

I am sure I speak for everyone when I say that we'd love for you to join us for our Sunday meets: 2:30pm at Currents (or at Bon Voyage in case of inclement weather). Also there is a 10:30pm adult meet for "Match Your Mate" at Evolution.

Funny story: I packed my big suitcase tonight and was happy that everything fit so easily. Then a few hours later, I realized that I hadn't packed any shorts- just tops. :lmao: No, that won't quite work. ;)

Another news flash!

When we come back from the trip my DM will be doing a TR and will be with us for the meet up

Well for anyone with Tweens, our DS Mason 11 will be spending most of his time at the new Tween club...and we hear that it is almost essential to be there the first night b/c that is when the tweens get to create their own Navigator for the cruise...

We are also platinum and will be there early...and will be very easy to spot as I am 6'8"....

As to the storm, it looks like it should be through the area by the time we leave, though first night may be a bit choppy, but take your Bonine and enjoy...

This will be my first cruise. Ever. I am bringing my twin daughters, who are 6, and they are so excited! One of my daughters just finished chemo for leukemia, and actually this cruise was her Wish granted from Make A Wish! I want it to be wonderful for her, but I am a little nervous about Tropical Storm Emily. We are flying into Orlando on Saturday, then headed to Cape Canaveral on Sunday. For anyone else who will be on this particular cruise, have you received any information from Disney as to itinerary changes, rough seas, and the like? I am so unfamiliar with the way cruises work, and I would very much appreciate any feedback at all. I do hope all will proceed!

First off, welcome! :welcome: And many good thoughts to your daughters especially the MAW one. I really hope the cruise will be special for her, and for all of you!

It's not likely Disney would contact anyone in advance with itinerary changes etc- partly because those would likely be decided at the last minute. (and partly because it would be a huge undertaking). Maybe if there was a huge change that was certain... but it would have to be something more major than a chance at a storm.

I've read that some ships currently at sea (not Disney) have been changing their scheduled ports from the Eastern Caribbean to Western. Captains are very good at figuring out how to avoid storms, although it can mean changes to the itinerary. If that happens, Disney is usually good at spreading the word to everyone aboard from what I've heard.

That said, Emily is supposed to be out of the track of our cruise by Sunday (if not sooner). So I don't think it would be a huge impact- unless it happens to hit Orlando directly on Saturday which could impact flights. However, people are saying that's not likely based on the current data. We're flying on Saturday too so we're obviously trying to think good thoughts!

We'll probably know more about Emily's projected path in the next 2 days so keep looking at the news etc.

Welcome!! I know you will have a wonderful cruise!

Hey Gang! I just looked at my friends navigators from the end of June into July and match your mate was on night 2. Mackie- if you see this should we just meet then if it is on the second night or should we plan to meet somewhere like Pink at a certain time on the first night? Hopefully our match your mate will be on night #1`, but guess this isn't always the case.

Officially DONEwith work for 2 weeks yay!!:thumbsup2

My 11 year old son, Ethan will be hanging out with Mason in the Tween club! He loves that stuff. He will be there as soon as it opens, I bet! In fact, I don't expect to see much of him on the cruise! :rotfl2:

Anyone worried about Emily (tropical storm)??? I feel bad for the people onboard right now. It looks as if they wont be able to do their last stop on CC and it looks iffy that they will be able to dock easily on Sunday. I sure hope they dont have to dock elsewhere and we have to be shuttled in. I have read some past cruise situations and they had to be shuttled acrossed Florida to catch the ship. This could be a nightmare. I looked at several websites and it looks like Port Canaveral will be hit saturday and then a few days after. I hope the waves aren't too rough. Just a little worried...
