A little break down, my in laws are taking my wife, sister in law, brother in law, their 2 kids (10 & 5) plus myself on our first Disney cruise the day after Easter. I am super pumped and have been waiting almost 2 years for this trip. It'll be the first cruise ever for myself and my brother in law. The rest of the group have done cruises and been to Nassau. I've read the suggestions of staying on the ship for half the day, etc. I am curious though as we both enjoy poker, is it free to go to the casino at Atlantis or do we need to book a "port adventure." I am thinking the 2 of us can run over there for a couple hours and join back with the gang. They've all expressed that they likely won't get off in Nassau. I am also a history buff and would like to visit some of the museums and historical sights. As a first timer would you recommend doing a guided tour or can I just work my way through town? Much thanks in advance.

My understanding is that the casinos are free.

I have visited the Queens Staircase and Fort Fincastle which are adjacent to each other. They are a relatively short walk from the port. Others have visited the Pirate's Museum. There are also some government buildings and old churches in the downtown area. I would suggest touring the downtown area on your own, I don't think a tour guide is necessary.

No problem doing this. It is "free" to get into the casino (and the shops around it) so all you need to do is grab a cab over there and back.

Atlantis' casino does not have poker tables. They have some poker based table games like Three-card, Let It Ride, and Texas Hold em, as well as many video poker machines, but they don't have a poker room.

You can likely also look into booking a local tour company to pick you up from Atlantis and take you to the sites and drop you back off at the port. If knowledgeable they can tell you some about the attractions other than, yes those are historical buildings.
