What's all the talk about the lights? Is there some trick to turning the cabin lights on and off?

Or is this an inside joke I just don't understand?:confused3

The staterooms on the Dream have a new system for the lighting in the rooms. I haven't seen them, so I'm only going by what I've heard.
You need to use your room key in a slot near the door, to turn the lights on. I'm wondering if I could use any type of card, like my AAA card?
And....what if you get up in the dark and need the lights? Do you still have to go put a card in, or do you leave one in?

So...obviously, I have something to learn when I get to my room for the first time.

I know they did this to save energy....or money....but I think it's a dumb idea. We pay a LOT for those rooms, I'd think it would be enough to cover the bill for lights.:sad2:

We stayed in a hotel that has this same system. Apparently any card with a magnetic strip will do. I have read on these boards that sometimes keys left in the slot while you are not in the room sometimes go missing. Speculations were that the stateroom staff has to use there card when they go into your room so they remove yours and possibly not return it to the slot.

I have a couple of spent gift cards that I am hoping will work.

My other idea is when I know that we will be on the ship just leaving one of the kids cards in the slot. They won't need it for any reason, right? I haven't given them charging privilages.

Surely it's a cost saving measure for Disney but I also think it's a conservation effort.

Maybe if you "lose" your card, guest services can give you a new one.

Oh!! Gotcha!
I have stayed in hotels in Greece that did this. H hated it bc the AC didn't stay on. I loved it bc I hate AC anyway!

GOOD MORNIN ALL

LIGHTS yeap I think its saving energy which is good but I like a chilled room and it helps with my illness. just inside your cabin is a key card holder is turns on your rooms lights, air and stuff, so it needs a card to make things work any strip card seems to work, last cruise a guy left his room forgot his card in the holder think his wife is there is when he came back his wife was on the veranda and could not here him at the door, finally the room steward opened the door for him, also a good thind I like is your room phone (1 of them) can be carried on the ship with you, you can be reached like a cell phone by just having your cabin room called, some pretty NEET STUFF one more the rooms have a dimmer just push your switch and hold it.

hope this helps,,,:hippie: alot of this was never explained to the guest. maybee we needed to read all the stuff,

have a good day all

We have stayed in the DREAM before and we just took an old Key to the World card for each of us so that we had a card we could leave in the door. When we exited the room, we put the old card on the front dresser and this worked well....that way we never misplaced the real card.

Otherwise, one member of the party leaves the room - grabs the card in the slot because it is handy or it is his, and then the lights go out...Not really being mean, but causes "vacation dispruption".....or "domestic discussions"....

Not that I would know about such things....:laughing:

The kids won't need their cards unless they're allowed to go back to the room by themselves. So your card idea is a good one.

I have a ton of old key cards, since I keep mine.....don't know why, I guess just so that I have a ton of old stuff for my kids to have to get rid of when they put me in a nursing home!
:rotfl2:

Garry....I still remember the night we met.....Adventurer's Club....and how surprised I was that you were "normal". :confused3:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Irene....when are you and Sam getting to Orlando? Or are you driving in the morning of the cruise?
