Other than for fun, is there a reason to purchase these?

We get them ahead of time as a way to save. Fun to watch them add up. It is also easier to give kids gifts from family members for birthdays etc., they love them and then have their own spending money.

I purchase $20 per paycheck from the Disney Store. This allows me to "bank" the extra spending money I'll need on my trip.

I LOVE DISNEY DOLLARS!!! For some goofy reason I don't feel like I am spending really money, there for I am not wasting my money on silly toys, and ice cream sandwiches and $2.50 water and popcorn and popcorn and popcorn.

So, I don't leave home without it. I also like to give it as gifts to people who are going to Disney soon.

I do the same thing. My kids were spending their money on the icecream man so I started giving Disney Dollars to keep them from going broke.

Also, can they be used for admission to the parks? Some members of our family want to give them to the kids for their trip but if we have too much for souvenirs alone, we may use them for admission to the water parks for a special down day.

I would think so, they are considered cash in the eyes of Disney. I will go look at some of ours and post back.

They say

"May be redeemed only at Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort and The Disney Store (U.S.A. and Puerto Rico) Disney Dollars may be spent or collected and saved as souvenirs and are redeemable at any time before or after any period of inactivity"

So, I still say yes you can use them for park admission.

We have had a hard time finding Disney Dollars. The store closest to us was out for a looong time. DH and I finally drove to another store about 1/2 hour away to get some.

We also give them to kids for rewards when we catch them being good. I know a number of people are giving them to my kids for their bdays too since we are going a week after my ds bday, and will be there during my dd's. Also my grandmother gave the family a nice sized mall gift certificate, and I was able to use that to purchase Disney dollars which was a nice way to do something fun for all four of us.

Anyone know if you can use them on the Disney Cruise Ships?

We buy them and give them as gifts. Since they never expire, people seem happy getting them and giving them an excuse to go to Disney.

Can you order them online or over the phone from somewhere? I live about an hour from a Disney Store and have tried a couple of times when over that way but they are always out. With the price of gas going up and up , I can't make too many trips. We still have a year but I want to give some for birthdays and Christmas.
