Disney Dollars?

Do the Disney Stores still sell Disney Dollars or do you have to order them by mail now? Haven't bought them in ages but I want to start using them like "allowance" for my kids. This way they won't/can't spend their money before our trip in October!

Yes the disney stores now have disney dollars in stock. Its a great way to save for Disney.

How exactly do the dollars work? Can you use them like regular money?

Yes, they are like "regular" money, only if you are somewhere Disney, like the store, Downtown Disney or the parks. Can't use them at the local WalMart on a Pooh t-shirt!

I saw that you can use them anywhere in Disney - is this including ALL restraunts? I was thinking about buying $50 or so for the next 3 months if we can use them ANYWHERE in Disney.

FYI ~ My mom and I went to buy disney dollars for our trip. Because of the 50th anniversary, they were limiting the number you could get. The local store was quite rude about it. Also, if you order by phone, you can only order $50 on a credit card. You have to send a check.

It might be easier to get them when you get to the park on the first day!

You can use them anywhere in WDW, even restaurants. We paid for a lot of meals, all of our souvenirs and some misc items with them. We took $600 in Disney Dollars with us and had no issues with any place we redeemed them.

dsnyfrek - that is a shame that you guys were given such a hard time. I never had any issues with the quantity I purchased. I would purchase anywhere between 10 - 100 worth at a time and was never told there was a limit. I am sorry you had such an unmagical and unkind experience.

I think that really defeats the purpose. That is just trading cash for cash. If you already have the money, why would you trade it for the same thing? To me that is like going to the bank and trading $1 worth of quarters for a $1 bill.

I think the real purpose of Disney Dollars is so that one can save before heading to Disney. Start purchasing Mickey Money when you start your planning and because you cannnot spend it anywhere but within Disney's circle of businesses, you will have money you forgot about when you go.

You know what was really funny about the whole situation is that a store 20 miles away had a limit of $350, and the store we happened to stop at had a limit of $100. Go figure we would pick the other one. They said we could come back and get more each day, but we lived 40 miles from the store.

We have since decided to get them when we arrive, just makes the whole thing easier for us. We can charge them and not have to carry the cash to purchase.

I hope whatever you decide it works out.

I do know this is the first time they have a $50 commemorative bill for collectors!

I got some at our local store. I was told that you can only get $500 worth if you are paying by credit card. I did get $500. but I believe they are the old style. They don't look any different than the ones we used last year.
